I71 Overnight Park Recommendations

Looking for I-71 recommendations for clean overnight parks (good wifi would be nice) between Cincinnati and Cleveland. Just an overnight stay on the way to Niagara Falls this summer. Thanks!

As you can see, there’s at least 3 KOA locations fairly close to I-71 between Columbus and Cleveland.

Should offer everything you need, and easy-on and easy-off.

Caesar’s creek near Dayton.

State park. Clean and neat. No wifi!

The Air Force museum is close. Still free!

Thanks we are KOA members, the KOAs that I had check with are requiring a min 3 night stay. I should have said in the OP, 'excluding KOAs'... Thx

Is there any Logic?

Someone please help me here? We have been KOA members some time ago. We have stayed at KOA's for years. Here we have a person who IS a member but they demand a three (3) night stay. Do you mean to say that if you pull in at 4:00 PM and they have space they will still make you pay for 3 nights? We still have one of their books in the car but the last few years we found several camps had dropped the franchise. Those that still belong we found in some cases the conditions decreased while the price increased.

Not for everyone, but we stayed here for a week, nine years ago and liked it. It's in Medina, near Akron, just off I-271.

Olive Branch Campground right off I 71 about 25 miles N of Cincy. Next exit north will put you at Ceaser Creek State Park.

About half way between Columbus and Cleveland is Moh1can State Park

Ohio State Parks do require a pre registration on line.

I've seen three-day requirements on holiday weekends, when the park expects a lot of people to stay Fri/Sat/Sun. They don't want to turn down weekend-long stays to accommodate single night stays. I don't recall coming across it any other times.

Cindy and I stopped at a KOA in southwest Missouri on our way back from several rallies that past fall to visit our granddaughter in her first semester in college. No problem with a one-night stay.

UPDATE: I just did a Google search on "does koa have a three-night minimum stay." The first seven or eight listings said right at the start that they require three nights for holiday weekends ("long weekends" in Canadian terms). At least one required two nights on weekends during peak season, but I didn't bother to see where that was.

Ahhh, just another thread on why I avoid KOA's! To the OP, go to a Walmart and run your Genset if you have one.

Thanks

Thank you Mr. Byrne. I guess I should have done that myself. It's strange that when Franchises get in trouble they insist on shooting themselves in the foot thereby making it worse. Seen it time and time again.

I wonder if the OP’s trip dates are over July 4? That would explain 3 night minimum.

The Cardinal Center has nice camping, it is part of a shooting complex so if there is an event sites may be hard to get. We have stayed there a couple of times on weekdays with lots of empty spaces around us.

We prefer KOA most of the time and have never experienced any minimum stay other than holiday weekends -- and literally everyone else does this as well as the typical state park.

If you're traveling on a holiday weekend Ohio State Parks are gonna be a NoGo unless you made a reservation last Thanksgiving.

Any Ohio SP will be nice. Which one depends on where you're spending the night before (I'm guessing you're starting in Alabama not Cincinnati). Alum Creek and Malabar Farm are close to I71 just north of Columbus. (Drive straight thru Columbus, don't take the bypass). If you can press on thru the Cleveland area (take I271) Geneva SP is very nice. But literally any one will be fine. I'm a few years out of date on wifi but bet they all have it by now.

Or very nearby is Cross Creek Rv and Campground. On Old State Road. Great place with several.easy pull through sites. Decent wifi. Summer months they have a nice pool. Easy to shopping and restaurants too.

Cabela's in Columbus.

Mt Gilead SP just north of Columbus

In Mansfield there is a Cracker Barrel. Not sure if Bob Evans allows overnight parking.

Join FMCA. They have a members-only campground in Newtown, OH on the east side of Cincinnati.

There's 14 or 15 FHU on concrete and the rest are water/electric on asphalt maybe 24 spits total. There is a dump station.

They very recently started charging and I think it's $10 a night for the asphalt and $15 a night for the FHU.

We live near Cleveland and that's always our stopover on the way south or north. Dog park, clean, and nice. Online reservations are required but almost always available.

We have stayed at the KOA Sunbury/Columbus years ago. Which is easy off and on 1-75.
The campground was young then and I am sure has been lots update by now. Have a safe trip to Niagara Falls

Aero, when's your trip to Niagara Falls and where are you staying when there?
