Blue water key.. Great place.. And Rita is top shelf.. Have stayed there quite a bit.. The premium sites are very spacious and private .. If you want to do some boating they have a marina that will rent/deliver one to your dock.... If you like to fish.. Lots of mangrove snapper and Cuda..

Cuda is a reason that I would *not* fish! Scary teeth!
I'm not sure we'll deal with Rita as I rented thru .com not .net.

Let us know how the intermediate stops worked out for you as well.
We are not going down this year (obvious reasons), but hopefully we can pick up where we left off in 2016.
I would like to pick some nicer stops next time. FAMCAMPs are great; but most lack the "new" basic necessities (cable, internet, etc.).

To be honest, our trip down is in a rush. I'm trying to hit a Camping World in Fayetteville, NC but I have to call them that day to see if they'll have open service parking spots that night. I'm literally just looking for a place to crash; I'd use a Walmart if I wasn't worried about my battery.

If you start your trip with a fully charged healthy battery, one night won't hurt you. As to racing down, that is my position as well. With the supply overhead for the DW's dialysis equipment, we can't dawdle between supply dumps.

I can tell you where not to stop. We made it to Homestead and it was to late to make it to Bluewater so we stopped at Suncoast. What a POS. I would stay at a Walmart before I stayed there again. Sorry that's not helpful but could save someone from a crappy night.

Thanks! We're staying the night before at Larry and Penny Thompson park in Miami. We should have an "easy" drive getting into Bluewater.

That's our plan. I picked out a Camping World (they have electric hookups) that I'm hoping to make. The problem is that we aren't leaving until 2pm and I don't know how DC will treat us. We'll see. If not, we are thinking of a Walmart. I'll download the list of Walmarts that allow overnight parking and we'll look for a stay for the night.

Fayetteville is not a good city.... think of Fayetteville as about as safe as baltimore... be careful overnighting in that area.

We have stayed at the Fayetteville KOA north of the city (in Wade - though I just checked and they are no longer on the KOA map - 6250 Wade-Stedman Rd 910-484-5500) and had an "OK" experience; our stay at the Ft Bragg FAMCAMP on Lake Smith was a disaster due to the rain a few days before we arrived. The 2 mile dirt road to the lake campground was as dangerous a piece of red dirt road as I have ever been on.

Key West! Bluewater Key reservation made!
Good info on Bluewater. We went to the Keys last March and stayed at Geiger Key RV resort...a VERY QUIRKY fun little park with probably less than 25 sites. Located next to a fabulous local fish camp with fabulous hog fish tacos! The sites are small (intimate) 😊and the other RVers were friendly and shared great stories. We had a great palapa right on the waterway among groves of mangroves. Just north of Key West it was perfect to go down for the "sites" and exploring but a great little fun place to hang out. Were deciding whether to go to Bluewater or back to Geiger in March. No bad choices.

So Camping World turned out to be a flop. They suggested I call the service department on the day of my trip to check that there were spots open. I forgot and called about 15-minutes after the service dept closed. The fellow I spoke with said that those spots were dedicated to service customers whose work needed to span multiple days. So we moved on down the road...
I called the Lumberton, NC Walmart and was told to park "out by the restaurant" and that security would be around to check on me. Between asquared's comments above and something I read on the Walmart RVing Yahoo group, I felt better looking further down the road.
The Dillon, SC Walmart told me to park out away from customers. Their lot was pretty level and we had a good stay. We were 1 of 4 RVs and a big rig there for the night.
We stopped in St. Augustine at Flying J for dinner. We didn't stay the night but they had a really nice RV parking area away from the big rigs. It was filled with 20+ RVs seemingly parked for the night. I was pretty surprised.

We didn't expect the near constant heavy winds. Fortunately our tiki hut has roll down walls for 3 sides, but it was still a challenge to be outside in December.
