Land Between the Lakes Info

Just got back from Teton and Yellowstone, and planning our next trip. Looking to go to the Land Between the Lakes in Tenn and Kentucky around the last 2 weeks in Oct and first week in Nov.
Looking for info as to good full hook up campgrounds and the better towns and villages to visit.
Planning on moving around every 3-4 days, so we don't need a "base" campground. Will probably be in the area for 2 to 2 1/2 weeks.

We spend 2-3 weeks there every year. Our favorite campground is Hillman Ferry in LBL. There are full hookup sites but none on the water. LBL doesn’t have much in terms of towns and villages. It's a huge, and I mean huge, recreation and wildlife refuge. We kayak, hike, bike snd boat in the area. LBL is a peninsula between 2 very large lakes, hence the name. There are 2 developed campgrounds (Hillman Ferry and Piney), a planetarium, 1800's recreated village, elk & bison Prarie and lots of wilderness. Paducah is the nearest city of any size. It's claim to fame is the national quilting museum and the murals along the river.

There are other campgrounds outside of LBL but the only one I have been to is a Corps of Engineers campground called Canal near Grand Rivers. It's an OK campground but not sure if it has full hookup sites.

If you have a generator, you can camp there. That's what I'm thinking of doing next time. If you call them, they should be able to supply the information you need.

We stayed overnite at Lake Barkley St. Resort Park back in 2016. Nice campground, clean but older facilities, a bit off the Interstate. The sites were nice, some spacious with nice views of the lake BUT the roads are narrow. We would stay again if we had more time to stay.

In the past years all COE campgrounds in LBL and the surrounding area close for the season the last day of Oct. As an experiment, I think Piney stayed open until Nov 15 last year. Haven't checked yet for this year. Some (most) of the private ones stay open year around. As too what to see and do, as mentioned, The National Quilt Museum is one hour away from the northern end of LBL. Grand Rivers is up there also. Patties 1890 Settlement, Home of the 2 in thick pork chop is located there. Nashville about 2 hours from the south end. Clarksville and Fort Campbell Army, home of the famed 101 Airborne, about 1 hour. PM me and I'll fill your eyes with suggestions. I'm just outside of Clarksville Tn so I get over there quite often. We were in the area for a full week from the 4th through the 11th of June, this year. We stayed at Duck Creek. It was extremely nice and the people there were great. It is in Paducah, Ky.
