I second the recommendation for Anchor Down. Beautiful location on Douglas Lake, handmade stone fireplaces, immaculate bath/shower areas, and very helpful. They do have 10 days open for Signature sites in September for the 5th - 14th at this time. https://www.anchordownrvresort.com/reservations/

We like Pine Mountain campground. It’s a couple of blocks off the main drag in “downtown” Pigeon Forge. Beautiful but small campground with all the amenities. Some of the sites are close but the ones on the creek are spacious. Nice concrete pads so easy to level & sites long enough for your toad. I believe they offer a Good Sam discount as well. With this campground, you have all the convince of being “close” without all the associated noises. BONUS - you can see the Dollywood fireworks from the campground.

Thanks everyone for all of the information. Looks like we have selected a place a little bit north of Pigeon Forge. We'll be there for 10 days then off for Williamsburg. Just an FYI, we've not had any issues finding a spot in Tennessee, or Virginia. I think the trick is going after school starts.

Up the Creek
We stayed at Up the Creek campground a couple years ago. Nice quiet and a short drive to all the attractions. We were traveling with another couple great to be in a campground without all the fluff of pools and playgrounds.

We're planning on being there for about 10-14 days to visit the Smokey Mountains, do a little Jeeping and visit the usual tourist destinations.
Would welcome suggestions and experiences in the area.

We just did a few days in pigeon forge and I think you might like Gatlinburg better, it a better adult area imo. We stayed at Clabough's in pigeon forge. It was ok… Gatlinburg is more set up to park and walk around and pigeon forge you will need to drive around. Probably want to walk in Gatlinburg after all the moonshine tasting

Always easier after Labor Day.
I'll head that way September 6th (Labor Day is the 5th).
Prop my feet up at the fire and listen to the faint comforting sounds of generators running...
Beats listening to traffic go by.

Gatlinburg
We have stayed twice at Big Meadow campground in Townsend. Townsend is quieter than Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge. Scenic drive across Wear’s Valley to Pigeon Forge from Townsend. I would prefer staying there rather than sitting in bumper to bumper traffic in PF or Gat. Townsend also 1 mile from the park between Gat and Cades Cove. Recommend going to the Bush’s Beans museum while there. It is in Sevierville.

We have stayed at Big Meadow and Little Arrow, both in Townsend, and both are great. We love Townsend, which is about 15 miles from Pigeon Forge.

We get to go in three weeks too. We're staying in PF, but no driving for us if at all possible. The KOA has a trolley stop we'll use to avoid any driving to the attractions in the area. Furthermore, if we want to avoid being tied to the trolley schedule, I bought us a pair of electric scooters to get us there and back.

Clabough's CG close to everything in the area. Very reasonable rates. Also reserving during the month of Oct. is very hard to do because of the fall color changing season.

Would highly recommend Little arrow camp ground in Townsend. It is right before the entrance to the park on the Cades cove side. We stayed there for 2 weeks last year and loved it. It's quiet and newly renovated. About a 30 minute drive to Pigeon Forge.

Another vote for Up The Creek. Stayed here many times with no complaints. It is a no frills park, but very quiet and beautiful. The general store down the street is also nice.
We just stayed at Camp Margaritaville and was very impressed with the sites; all paved, level side to side and lots of space. It is not too loud and the summer amenities look amazing.

Margaritaville has a resort there. It was brand new last year. Trolleys come through the site.

In Kodak, there are two campgrounds on the dam, (they are part of the tennesse valley authority), one upper and one lower, the lower is the better and both are far enough away from town, to be away from all of the traffic,
