Welcome to the White Mountains Ken!
There are a few campgrounds in the Mountain Region of NH, but also consider staying a little longer and look into the Lakes Region. You can stay somewhere around Lake Winnipesaukee's north end, in or around Meredith. By staying at the Lake, you can still enjoy the days that are not perfect for viewing Mt. Washington. You can drive up to No. Conway any good day you care to or check out the towns around the lake like Laconia/Weirs beach.
My family stayed at Clearwater CG in Meredith for the fourth time a few weeks ago. They are wonderful! My wife and I had our Rockwood, our son and his family were in their Puma and our daughter's family stayed in one of their cabins.
If you are into State Parks, check into White Lake in Tamworth, NH and Ellacoya State Park in Laconia. Tamworth being closer to Washington but Ellicoya has full hook ups (unfortunately doesn't allow pets). I grew up camping at White Lake and have not yet stayed at Ellicoya as we have a dog.
AS you may have guessed, I love the Lake and the Mountain and would be happy to share what I can to help make your trip memorable. If you are going up for fall foliage, better book ASAP. No such thing as boonedocking up in that neck of the woods either. One quick note: do not drive your own vehicle up Washington. Spend the extra money to take either the Cog Railway (the steam one!) or take one of the buses. You and your family will enjoy the trip up and down so much more... and you won't drive over the edge and end up on Northwoods Law!
Give me an idea on what you have for an RV and I might be able to help more on the campgrounds you might want to check into and those to avoid.
Safe travels and enjoy New Hampshire, but don't forget to spend some time in Massachusetts on the way up!
Cheers,
Grandpa Fred
