Mt Washington

Howdy,
We are looking to spend a few nites near Mt Washington and then head to Moosehead Lake in Maine in August. Anyone have any suggestions for either of those areas. We especially prefer full hookups right now. We also might stop in Southern NH on the way up so any suggestions for that is welcomed too, thanks.

We stayed at the Twin Mountain KOA and took the train to the top.

You may want to wait until next year, both NH & Maine are not currently allowing out of state transient campers.
Maine might ease restrictions late July but it is not definite and NH is possibly an even later time line.
Both states currently have a 14-day quarantine order in effect.

We stayed at Mountain Lake Campground and also took the cog train to the top of Mt Washington. Awesome trip. Hopefully they will start easing restrictions as most states are.

We also stayed at the Twin Mt KOA last year and took the steam train to the top. The steamer is more fun than the Diesel engine. The campground was very well run. Lots of other attractions in the immediate area also.

I highly recommend taking a moose tour, we took one out of Gorham. It was a lot of fun. My teenage kids really enjoyed it.

We are in the Conway NH area now staying in a friends driveway. Cog Railway is not open as far as I know. We Drove the truck to the top. There is a Pucker Factor of a high magnitude on that one. We Did stay at Eastern Slope Campground 2 weekends ago. It was OK. Lot's of Weekend traffic and some with longterm sites that are just there on weekends. Right on the Saco River, which was great. Went tubing. It was not the nicest campground, very dusty when dry, but had full hookups, space available and the price was right. Water supply silted up my filter pretty good. We had to sign a statement that we quarantined at home for 14 days prior to arrival from out of state. We also just got back from a weekend in Maine. As he had been in New Hampshire for 2 weeks, not quarantine in Maine needed.

We ride our motorcycles up every year. It's quite the ride.

I'll be headed up that way this afternoon. I got reservations for 3 nights at a KOA in Twin Mountain. I've driven up Mt Washington a few times and I'll be doing it again probably Saturday.

The Cog Railway opened on July 1. Tickets are available for the Steam Train and the Biodiesel Train. You may have to wait a while for the Steam Train since those tickets usually sell before the Biodiesel ones.

BTW - if you are a Harvest Hosts member, The Cog Railway can offer you an overnight at the base station for $20/person.
