I've never been to a NASCAR race, but I think camping the infield would be a great experience. Can you give me an idea of what kind of expense you're looking at? tickets for 4? camping fee? Thanks.

The infield camping is fun but is really crowded...really very very crowded. Costs range from a couple hundred bucks to a few thousand, depending on location in the infield.

Most track websites will give you all the info you need. I've done the infield thing a couple of times but no more for me. I want more room. It's sorta like visiting India...you can't explain it and you don't want to do it again. Many of the tracks have great campsites within short walking distance (2-300 yards) of the track. Atlanta and Bristol are great tracks for that with the cost being $200 or less for dry camping, $350 or so with water/electric/free tank dump.

Most of the trackside (and infield) camping is charged for the entire week. Show up on Sunday and stay seven nights, or show up on Saturday for one night, and you pay the same price.

Wifey and I are there as I type this. We went to the track this afternoon to check out the layout and back in the morning for a tram tour. Plenty to do this week with the "10 days of Thunder". Enjoy!

We are headed to Bristol for the first time in Aug. We just left the mud bowl of Dover 2 weekends ago. Then we will be at Richmond and Dover again in the fall.

You have my sympathy. BTW, it's not Charlotte, it's Concord.

We don't go near that side of Concord when there are races.

Not snarky, just other folks opinions. When Bill Jr took over and made them all IROC races, I lost all interest and the traffic over around the track is absolutely horrible.

Might see you there. And, aceinsp too if I can talk him into going.

Which campground are you planning to use?

Us too but we tend to camp away from the tracks - like 45 miles away. Bristol and Talladega are zoos for camping. But the wildest track I camped at was Charlotte. That track had a naked prostitute next door, nude pole dancing, acid rock bands at 2 AM, and finally a police raid. Now you know why we camp away from the tracks in our older age.

We are using a state park about 1\2 hour from track. We usually don't camp at tracks either. No hookups, packed in and trouble no thanks. We do camp track side at Dover. Even though we live only 15 mins. south of track. A guy I work with tried to stop a couple from stealing gennies this last trip at Dover. They were going through with bolt cutters snipping locking cables and loading them up. Buddy tried jumping in their truck to stop them to no avail. They got away with three Hondas and a cooler of beer. So I might not be going track side there any more.

Which park? We will be at Natural Tunnel which is a little further out than 1/2 hour. That is only because we will continue on to Kentucky after the race to camp some more.

I don't know, I drive, DW does the planning. But it's somewhere between the track and Virginia. We camping near Lynchburg before the race.
