Question Need a route suggestion, please!

In a couple weeks, we'll be leaving Shipshewana, IN with our new to us camper. We need a good route avoiding those crazy turns and steep mountains in WV. The more I think about it, the worse it seems. I remember my mom and dad, in the 70's having to find a different route to the beach because they'd never drive over the Molly Stark in VT with our old tt. Now, I know why.

We'll need to get to Lexington, Virginia. I'm just not familiar enough with western PA and Eastern OH, so don't know if we're trading one set of mountains for another or not. If we can get to 81, we'll be pretty much set, since it goes down the valley.

If you're more familiar with that area, I'd love some advice.

When we came back from Goshen, we took I-80/90 to the Ohio Turnpike to then PA. Turnpike. There are some mountains in Western PA, but it is interstate......so no sharp turns or real bad climbs. Got off of the PA Turnpike at I-70, to Berkley Springs, WVa. From there we took Rt 522 to Winchester.....that is actually a pretty good road, with a few climbs, but nothing serious. At Winchester you can take I-81 south straight to Lexington.

Going to Goshen, we took I-64 in western VA., WVa., and Kentucky. If you don't want climbs, don't take that route....even though it goes right through Lexington.

Thought this looked interesting and could be helpful! A directory for RVs of mountain roads and steep grades all over the country. Don't own it but may get it. I'm not good with heights

Thanks so much for the help! We live right off 64, in the mountains, but feel much more comfortable making the trip from the Lexington area instead of through West Virginia. I did order that book...it looked so helpful and I could get the eastern mountain states for just $15. WELL worth the money. I'm starting to wonder if we should get a Hensley hitch, too. Maybe it is worth the money...especially since we're just starting out towing a more significant vehicle...the pop-up was nothing to tow.

Thanks again!! I love this forum!

I have the Eastern Mountain Directory.....I never leave home without it if I am towing the camper.
