Need X-country Southern route for January

Hey all...thought I'd ask for recommendations on routing to go cross country from the Carolinas during the month of January with the only MUST stops in Las Vegas and Los Angeles.
Route should have the following qualities:

1. Likely good weather en route...minimum snow and ice.
2. Fast & good for Class A travel. Looking to make time not explore.
3. Will give up some #2 for better #1!
4. Driving a short Class A gasser with no TOAD.

Will do my exploring on the way back as time permits... but won't be doing any sightseeing on the way out.
To make it easy and not get caught up in the weeds...lets call it atlanta to vegas...I can figure out the rest!
Thanks in advance!

You should head a little south and take I-10 West.

I-10 or I-40.

I-40 will put you closer to Vegas than 10 will.

In Texas, I10 or I20 will be better weather in January.

However I-40 has a much higher risk of snow and ice in January than I-10.

After last winter the whole bloody country is at risk of snow and ice.

I would take a long look at the weather history and the weather at the time it is easy to drive north or south between the two.

Need X-country Southern route for January

40 can get dicey in January. 10 has a couple spots that can also but not like 40. On 40 you'd have to pay attention to the weather in Flagstaff for one.
If you're going to Vegas first you can jump off 10 in Phoenix to get there then just get on I-15 to LA.
Both 40 and 10 are about the same for food and services.

No way would I take 40 before 10 or 20 in January. Just getting though Oklahoma would make me turn around.

I-10 to Phoenix, then Wickenburg, Kingman, Hoover Dam, Henderson - straight into Las Vegas.

Thanks to all...looks like I'll try I-10 most of the way out...and take the alternates back when it is warmer.

Most direct way to get on 10 is to run 20 out of Atlanta. It merges with 10 in West Texas.

Just plan on a full day to get across LA due to the rough interstate and not being able to go over about 35-40 mph without tearing up the truck or trailer.

I would skip I-10 and stick to I-20 across the South. Roads will be fine and as mentioned they will merge in West Texas. I-10 dips down too far South for making good time. If sightseeing then it is fine.

Guess there's no good way around that washboard eh Coot? Will allow extra time.. thanks.
Rhozeta and RKR...thanks...but I think I'm gonna skip 20 even though it is more direct & faster as I have seen what Dalas/Ft.Worth can be like in the winter and the extra time for the southern route seems worth it to me.
Thanks again to all.

Just a reminder for your return trip. Spring is tornado season in Iowa, Kansas etc. I learned the hard way on a trip to California in April a few years ago. No tornadoes, but torrential rains, wind, thunder/lightning etc. So much water on I-40 that you couldn't drive faster than about 40 mph

I've run into snow on I-10 out in the West Texas mountains in January....IMHO, best bet is to have alternate routes at the ready when traveling during the winter months and look at the weather five days out along your routes as you go. Five day forecasts seem to be fairly accurate and the five day window allow plenty of time to get to an alternate route...
