New England suggestions
Planning a last minute trip to northern Vermont/New Hampshire or even the Adirondack area of NY at the end of the month. I am looking for campgrounds in these areas with full hook ups and spacious sites that would fit a 35ft. motorhome. Would like to be on a lake for kayaking/canoeing. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks, they look good. Just made a reservation with them for next week. I am still looking for a place in northern or central New Hampshire if anyone has a suggestion.

We enjoyed our stay at Harbor Hill Campground in Meredith, NH. It's at the northern tip of Lake Winnepesaukee and in the heart of the Lakes Region.

Ellacoya State Park which is right on Winnepesaukee and Gunstock near Laconia are pretty good. Fransted Family CG on the northern end of Franconia notch is a good park. Polly's Pancake Parlor is just down the road a piece. yummy

We visited East Concord, NH a couple of years back and stayed at Sacco River CG. Very convenient to Mt. Washington, hiking trails more than you can count and the town itself offers a couple of brewpubs, an outlet mall with great prices and you are only 70-75 miles from Portland, ME if you wanted a today trip there.
If the OP has time, I would highly suggest Lake Placid, NY! This is one of those unique places that it doesn't matter what time of year you visit. For the past 5 years, we have stayed at The North Pole Campground on Rt. 86, about 12 miles outside of town. They have a wooded section called 100 Acres that the sites are as large as state parks campgrounds, and an older section on the banks of the Ausable River where we have enjoyed some of our most beautiful kayaking
I checked out the suggestions for the Vt campground, at $90 a night that's too pricey for me.

I've enjoyed a stay at North Pole Campground and also recommend it. If you go a few miles up the Ausable from the GG there is good flyfishing as well. At one time the stream was fairly famous and a local fisherman had a number of famous flies named for the stream.

thanks to all. We did Apple Island and Harbor Hill CGs. Enjoyed both and would recommend them. I also like the suggestions for the Lake Placid/George areas. We will try them next year.

Hey bfunc, as already suggested for Lake Placid you can't go wrong with North Pole Campground on Rt. 86 in Wilmington, 12 miles outside of Lake Placid. Make sure you opt for the 100 Acres wooded part of their campground. Sites are very large and private with good utilities, level, woods of open sun. Good service by employees, extremely clean and tightly run, no rowdy parties. Close to Ausable Chasm (a must-do), hiking trails galore, White Face mountain ski resort and gondola ride or, drive up White Face Mountain. One of our favorite restaurants anywhere is 3 miles away The Hungry Trout overlooking the Ausable River rapids and waterfalls, great food especially their trout specials, atmosphere, and spectacular views.
In Lake George, about 86 miles away you can't go wrong with King Phillip Campground which is only 3 miles outside of the main tourist area of Lake George. There is a paved bike path across the street from the campground entrance that you can pedal or E-bike right into town. Great ride! Or catch the trail in the opposite direction and pedal on the paved path through the forest to the outlet mall just a couple of miles away. There are other "resort" type campgrounds nearby, but you'll pay $$$ to stay at them. King Phillips is wooded-level FHU sites that are quiet with a rustic feeling amongst the pines, nice.

I can also second the Hungry Trout restaurant. One of our famous camping stories is when we were camping in the area the family went on a horseback ride one morning. My son, about 8 then, rode a horse named Black Jack. Later that night we went to the Hungry Trout for dinner. On the menu at the time was the Black Jack burger.
I don't remember if any of us ordered that entrée but I do recall the food was excellent.
