Nice Campgrounds Just North of Detroit

I live in Sterling Heights Mi and looking for campgrounds that are close to home that are real nice, I have a 371REBH so it must have spots that can handle a bigger camper. I am new and only been out once. Looking for a place or 2 just for short weekends

In my opinion there is nothing real nice (depending on your definition) within a hundred miles or so. We take short trips to the Holly KOA right off I-75, it's clean and maintained. There is also a KOA in Emmett off of I-69 west of Port Huron but haven't been to it.

I'm going to try the Thousand Trails/Encore park, St. Clair. I don't know anything about it- but we'll park there for a week in about a month or so.

I have not stayed there, however I'm told it's a nice park and a safe area. FYI there is major road construction on the major freeways I-69 & I-94. They are down to one lane for some distance so avoid during rush hours.

Groveland Oaks near Holly Michigan is a pretty nice campground and has full hook ups and can handle just about any size rig. My 5er is 42 feet and we get in there just fine.
The nightly fee is not bad either.

Most of the Michigan State Parks are very nice and well maintained. Although I'm not sure about availability for a camper your size. Check out the Michigan DNR website. It is pretty easy to see what is available and pick your own sites.

The Port Huron KOA is one of the best parks/resorts in Michigan, especially if you have kids/grand kids. We've scheduled a week in July for the 3rd year in a row with our grandchildren.

Seven Lakes State Park in Holly, Port Huron KOA, Lake Huron Campground in Carsonville, Haas Lake in New Hudson, Lake Port State Park just N of Port Huron, Sleeper State Park in Caseville...just to name a few. I live in Clinton Township and like to tow about 1 1/2 to 2 hours max and there are MANY nice parks within this distance!! Happy Camping!!

Algonac has huge sites, There are always 40 footers in there. We are 33ft and always have plenty of extra room.

Algonac and Lakepprt state park are nice. KOA in ph is good but very expensive. It just depends what your looking to do. Do you want a lot of activities or atmosphere. There is a really nice one in Rochester but I can't remember the name anymore. My favorite north is port crescent in port Austin but depends how far you want to drive and again what you looking for

We are not from MI, but my husband is a retired GM Engineer and we camped alot in Oakland County, using Oakland County Parks. Our favorite was Groveland Oaks. We would go there for 2 weeks when he had jobs in Pontiac. The County Parks only have water & electric, so we usually picked a site near the bathroom as he had to shower every morning before going to work. I would be alone all day but I brought sewing projects to do and I would ride my bike around the park. We loved it

Addison Oaks Campground near Oxford MI. An Oakland County Park. Metamora- Hadley State Park. I have not been disappointed with any of the State Park campgrounds. Been to about 15 of them all over the state including the one mentioned above in Algonac.

You can always go to Camp Dearborn in Milford, Michigan. (Northwest of Detroit) Big rig friendly- lakes- fishing- pool- rec center- full hook-ups with large concrete pads. very safe as Oakland Sheriff patrol 24/7..
