Here in Ohio, the Blue transponder I have is for a Pickup, Non Commercial.
The tolls on the Ohio Turnpike to our Favorite State Park are 2.25 for the truck without the trailer, and with the twin axel 28 foot Coachmen Catalina it's only 4.75 for the trip of about 60 turnpike miles. Man, I'm glad I'm not traveling in New York. Cuomo must need a new car...

Cuomo is trying to pay the 14 million to remove all the wonderful signs he put up along the thruway that the federal government told him were illegal.

I have both a blue Ohio EZpass and a white NY one. On my recent trip West from Ohio, my NY pass was charged for the Indiana toll road portion even though I had it in its protective bag inside the glove compartment of the toad. I solved the extra charging problem by wrapping the protective bag in aluminum foil.

The NY EZpass support desk told me that I'd need to submit paper documents showing that there were charges on the Ohio pass at the same time that the NY pass was charged. They'd then reverse the extra charges. Unfortunately, this probably won't reverse the extra replentishment of the NY account that the charges caused.

GWB last year. 68 dollars with the blue transponder. That's a two night stay in a state campground here on the Island.

Interesting Thread: THANKS...After reading the posts yesterday I called the Mass E-ZPass Center and inquired about a transponder for our 5th wheel (a "blue one") I was informed in MA the blue transponders are for commercial tractor trailers and what MA offers for TTs is a specific RV transponder. You only use it when hauling your TT...just replace your regular one with this one. She did mention to rap the regular transponder in aluminum foil and place it in the glove compartment (no double dipping). There was no charge for the new TT transponder just a few questions such as: tag number, make/model, ht., wt., # of axles. Pretty simple, it will be here in 2-3 days. It will be interesting to see changes in our E-ZPass bill.
I informed our dealer today and they are adding this info to their customer check-off list.
Thanks again for a very helpful Thread.

Happy Trails

So what happens when I use the single multi-purpose white EZPass issued to me by New York State with my two axle trailer on the Mass Pike? Their system will either charge me twice (4 axles) or only once as a passenger vehicle?

In PA the ez pass covers both vehicles or just the one if not connected. When you enter our toll lane, the metal strips on the road are scales and count the axles. This is how they determine what to charge.

They must also measure the distance between the axles and calculate duration because how else would it determine if it was TV + trailer or just two cars?

Yep they are smart. Picks up the gaps. Between cars and a connected trailer to figure correct. Use the same setup at the roadside weight stations in PA as a pre-screen for weight issues.
