Overnight near Harrisburg PA

Is there anyone who can recommend a safe and relatively quiet overnight location such as a Camping World, Casino, Rest Area, Walmart etc. for an overnight stop in the Harrisburg area close to I-81?

Weíd be arriving in the evening, then back on the road by early morning, and canít really see the justification of paying campground fees, when we could dry camp for the night.

Thanks

There’s a Bass Pro Shops in Harrisburg. And a Cabelas not far away (depending on direction you’re traveling).

Haven’t stayed at either, but I would look at those.

And the Walmart in Camp Hill appears to allow overnight parking. I used to work near there and would stay there. Never did, though.

Good luck! Please post back where you end up.

We overnight at the Cracker Barrel off 81 near the split with 83. They have a dedicated space for RVs.

We’ll look into this location, however some of the reviews,

Casino Camper - Hollywood Casino Overnight RV Parking Information

although not recent, say RV parking is in close quarters with the trucks and may not be quiet or favourably level. Hopefully someone HAS stayed recently and can comment.

We stayed there last year and parked in the lower car parking lot, away from the trucks. It was fairly level and very quiet. There was 3 or 4 other RVs in that lot....Bruce

Little Buffalo State Park, while not "free" is very inexpensive. It's part of the PA State Park system, and reservations can be made online at reservaamerica.com¬*-&nbspThis website is for sale!¬*-&nbspreservaamerica Resources and Information.
It's a small park, very quiet, great bath house.

Chambersburg PA Walmart is about 50 miles south of Harrisburg and not far from I81. We stayed there in Spring 2018 and found it to be quiet and pretty level. Watch out for those PA fuel prices!

Walmart off of I 81 route 114 in Mechanicsburg PA allows overnight camping. 24 hour diner with good food and plenty of gas. About a mile south of 81 and 10 miles west of Harrisburg. Walmart open 24 hours if you need anything

Just a follow up.....

https://www.hollywoodpnrc.com/?utm_s...oglemybusiness

We stayed overnight at the Hollywood Casino. Itís just off I-81 North of Harrisburg PA. Very well positioned for RVís and parking lot is well lit. Out of RV courtesy, we just let the staff know we were in their lot. No problem. Not only is it free.....itís absolutely quiet.....we know because we slept with the windows open.

Enjoy the games and buffet if you want.

Good to know you found a safe place. Maybe I'll park there next time I go to Hershey Park! You know they will have security too.
