While there, take a short ride down Springville Road, about one mile, to Gideon King Hardware, even if you don't need anything. It is the coolest hardware store you will ever visit. There are no electric lights in the store - just mantles fired by propane. Also, if you need propane, get it there. It is 35 cents per pound.

Born and raised outside of Philly with lots of family history in Lancaster County. Have stayed at Floys and enjoyed it very much. My younger brother lives just a few blocks away on Paradise Lane. Try to visit the Strasbourg Railway and the adjacent Pennsylvania Railroad Museum while you are there, unless you are averse to museums celebrating the engineering phenomena of the railroad history of this country. Shady Maple is a bargain when you're hungry. I need to fast for three days before dining there!!

If time permits, try to visit Gettysburg Battlefield. My great-great-grandfather Michael Jacobs was a professor at Gettysburg College at the time of the battle. He is the guy who took the Union Generals to the top of the Library Building Cupola so they could get a sense of the "lay of the land", and positioned their troops onto the "high ground". Otherwise, the rebels may have won that battle.

Thanks everyone. Easy drive to here from Salem where we overnighted. Took the GPS "avoid to tollroad" option and cane through some nice farmland and the town of Manheim. I kept my fingers crossed that I wouldn't round the bend and have a low bridge. No fun turning around pulling a toad. Anyway, made it safely to Pinch Pond nice folks at the desk. Campground has emptied out pretty good after the holiday weekend. Looking over the list of things to see that everyone sent. We are itching to get started. Thanks again for the tips. We will be here all week.

Sent some of the links to my wife by email (at work) that we should visit next year. Five hours or so from Buffalo, NY and the area has had my interest for a couple of years now.

Spent the day in an around Intercourse Pa. today. Lunch at Stoltzfus meats was delicious. She had cheesesteak and I the Stoltzfus sausage. Then went and checked out Gideon King hardware. They are worth the trip out to the country. Also, the little local store that we accidentally went to first, thanks to GPS. Back in town tried the ice cream at the Lapp Valley store in the Kitchen kettle village. It was wonderful. Last stop of the day was back at Stlozfus to load the ice chest we picked up at the hardware store. Fillets, Delmonicos, meat pies, Lebanon balcony, sausage, chicken Carson-blu, cheese, butter, jam, shoo fly pie.... Ok, had to stop. Now back at camp rearranging the fridge. (Note to self, next trip here don't bring meat)

We stay at Floy's campground for 4 days and then Niagara Falls for 4 nights at Four Mile Creek campground. We really like the area around Intercourse. I like Intercourse Canning, can fill up there, I plan to buy some pickle beets, they are great. The ice cream at Lapp Valley can't be beat

Just for the record: A few people have referred to Flory's Campground as Floy's. So, if others are searching online for this particular campground, don't forget the "r" in their name. They are on Ronks Rd in Ronks, PA.

I'm happy to see you had a good time. Isn't Gideon great? The small Amish grocery store you went to, Springville Foods, is a great place to have in the middle of nowhere. I buy my milk here - it is fresh daily from their grass-fed Jersey Cows. The top third of the gallon bottle is rich yellow cream. Sometimes when I get it, it is so fresh, it is still warm.

Speaking of these types of stores, it is important to note that most of the Amish stores such as these don't take credit cards, so make sure you have cash or checks. They never have a problem with out-of-state checks. But, when they do, they post the bad check on their counters for everybody to see.

Rockford roo, I saw scrapple in the case but didn't feel adventurous enough to try. We are at Hershey World today and I am throwing caution to the wind and trying many different combinations of chocolate!

That's where we bought our Pursuit last year... an amazing show with just about every brand and type of RV. Lots of drooling took place, let me tell ya.

(My parents grew up in Harrisburg and Mechanicsburg, PA. Mymom used to make us Scrapple; we always doused it liberally with ketchup. When I got married (Wisconsin girl) my mom served Scrapple one night. My wife was NOT impressed and will never eat it again! It's made with all the parts of the pig that no one else wants!)

I am not arguing with Spock, as I know the laws vary by state and he may not be familiar with Pennsylvania's laws. I am just wondering if there is some Amish rule he knows about that prohibits them from selling it.

LOL Rockford. I dunno why I wont try scrapple. I used to drive a delivery truck for a meat company and often walked through the cooler and watched everything that goes into bologna and wieners. I still like to eat those, so I may have to try some. Gettysburg today folks. ttyl
