Rough riding thru Birmingham, Montgomery, Alabama

Traveling thru Birmingham and Montgomery Alabama with our 34' Cedar Creek 5'er in early November '13 we encountered nasty highway construction. The jousting of truck and CC made a mess of the 5er's pantry, sploshing drinks in our cup holders and mush of our minds, hearts and backs. I'm not going to say stay away.....just be aware! Fortunately it was a weekend so there were no delays.

About a 8 miles north of Birmingham and 7 miles south, about 15 miles total, on I-65 is like a wash board. Better have everything tied down and hold on to the wheel with both hands. After you get through that part it is smooth sailing.

I lucked out; Early November I came in on I20 and out on 78 toward Memphis. Birmingham is not fun to drive through, but I missed the rough ride.

Although they have done a great deal of work on IH 10 thru Louisiana and it is now much better then it has been in years, the interstate thru Lake Charles is still quite bad with the wash board condition. Went thru last Thrusday on way home from Casino RV park in Kender. Excellent RV park and after you go the first time, $18 per night, $20 less 10% discount for Good Sam membership, if you play the slots or table games a little, they will give it to you for free.

Hey ya'll from Northern Alabama

Yeah... I65 South from about Cullman on down is a mess - DOT is doing a MAJOR upgrade to the interstates (both I65S & I20 E & W) expect delays and poor conditions everywhere south of Warrior AL.

My recommendation is avoid the stress and use the 4 lane blacktops - they are all pretty reasonable and somewhat less traveled than the interstates - ESPECiALLY this time of year!

Best of luck!
