RT 301 in Delaware

This afternoon my daughter is driving to Annapolis, MD from Media, PA.

She said the new RT. 301 is now open. Waze had her take it to save 15 minutes.

I am not sure where she picked it up going southbound. She said it was in the vicinity of Christiana Mall but that seems implausible to me.

As of Saturday afternoon that connection is not showing on my Apple iMac map.

Who can enlighten me?

Thanks,

Bobby

Bobby: The 301 connector opened a couple of weeks ago. It connects Rt1 to rt301. Heading south on rt1 you pick it up just south of the C/D canal.

I think if your running the length of it it is probably worth the tolls, for us where we can get on is one exit from the bottom so not really worth it for us. I think it starts at the north end right near the toll plaza after the canal bridge. Maybe someone else know if before or after the toll there.

Red face Rt301 in Delaware

That's great news. Can now bypass Middletown, DE business area. However you can still bypass 1st toll heading south by getting off last exit of Rt 13 and get Rt 1 going until within 1 mile of Middletown city limits and get back on. Coming from the south side you just follow the signs to Rt 301 and stay to Rt 1 exit to follow back to New Castle Airport if you wish. As for the toll, it's $4.00 weekend Friday from 7AM - Midnight Sunday; During the week it's $2.00. Thats to catch the beach goers, especially in the summer.

I finally took that route today. You and others told me to take 301 a few years ago. My DE objected. Regret I didn’t do this sooner.

The toll for route 1 is after the exit for 301 if going south bound. So no route 1 toll encountered when taking 301 south and I don’t recall hitting the toll on the way back tonight.

I did go through the $4.00 toll on 301 near the Maryland border both going to Annapolis and returning.

I cant properly express how superior this way is as opposed to the grind on 95.

Also my first trip over the Bay Bridge. I expected a crossing from Hell based on what I read about it. It was a big nothing other than being a pleasant experience.

Thanks to everyone who suggested this route.

Bobby

I forgot to mention that for the trip home both WAZE and the Ford Sync navigational app insisted we take 95. Eventually turned them off to get rid of the yapping and enjoy the trip back on 50 and 301. [emoji4]

Bobby, thanks for the update on using this route and also for the toll info, I was not sure where the exit for 301 was compared to the toll on Rt 1 so not a bad deal not having to pay that one. I think the 301 toll is just EZ Pass or toll by plate with overhead scanners. The bridge is hit or miss but of course weekends in the summer is worse but mostly depends which direction on which day you are heading.

I have been running this route for years long before they built the new connector. Much nicer then fighting the traffic on 95. On the way home this year from down south used the New 13. According to my gps leaving Adventure CG I used some back routs and the new route and saved an hour and a half on the way home. I get off at rt13 and run over to rt9 north to the twin bridges.

All the years I have been going that way I am always traveling on the day and time where most of the traffic is going the other way. Only time I was sweating it was one year just recent,it was windy and they closed the bridge to high profile vehicles about an hour after I got over it!
