St Lawrence River campgrounds

Wife and I are planning rv trip w our 32 ' 5th wheel. Any suggestions for WATERFRONT campgrounds on US side of St Lawrence River. Planning on staying 4 days w some hiking and biking and a couple nites out for dinner.

There are several.

Swan Bay is VERY nice. New a few years ago. Right on the water. Only a few miles to Alexandria Bay. Paved path to a grocery and liquor store. Pretty much the heart of the 1000 Islands. A stones throw from I-81...easy access.

New York state has several grounds. One not but a few miles from Swan Bay. The one I know best has no hookup sites and power/water only. None have full hookups. Easy access dump stations.

There are others..I'm just not personally familiar with them.

My wife and I spent a couple of days at Wellesley Island State Park last September.

We followed the shore line of Lake Ontario and then the St Lawrence River on our way to Bar Harbor. It should meet your objectives.

Take a tour of Bolt Castle and do the Two Country Boat Tour.

Alexandria Bay has a lot of activity and places to dine.

We stayed there last summer. While you are at Wellsley make sure you check out the little village of Thousand Islands (TI) Park. They have a beautiful collection of seasonal homes and a nice looking hotel for ice cream and light meals. We rented a kayak from the very sweet Kayak Lady who also makes great looking carry bags out of Sunbrella fabric. Kayaking is a great way to see some of the adjacent small islands and the beautiful homes on the islands and shore. Locals swim off the boat dock right there in the middle of town.

Pre 2016 we always did a cross border shopping and sightseeing trip. Base was Merry Knoll Campgrounds. Just super nice owners. DS and DIL rave about Natural Bridge KOA. Have fun!

There are several farther down river too. Robert Moses state park is nice, as is Jacques Cartier. Coles Creek is in between the two but is much more wide open and more of a party camp ground. Most of the state park sites are well maintained, and on the water.

We have stayed at a number of CGs/RV Parks on the St. Lawrence.

For parking while exploring the area and taking side trips into Canada without taking the RV, I recommend the Massena International Kampground. It has large 50 amps FHU sites ant lots of nice amenities and is just a short drive over the bridge into Canada or down the road to the Mohawk Casino where there is a RV park with W/E hook-ups and a dump station.

Coles Creek is another SP right on the rivers edge stayed there for a week 3 years ago considering a return trip next year
