Traveling from Southern PA to Maine

I'm planning a trip to the mid coast of Maine in August. A little rough getting reservations...but I think we're set. Decided to settle into a permanent spot for a couple weeks then do day trips up and down the coast. We settle on Balsam Cove Campground because we could get that for several nights. It's in Orland, ME. Has anyone been there?

Also stopping at the Boston Minuteman Campground off I-495 before we get there.

Are there any places along the coast that we definitely DON'T want to miss?? It's tough getting passes into Arcadia NP but I'll keep trying. It's just me and DH...leaving the dog behind to visit with my son and family this time.

We have scheduled a week near Arcadia and a week near Portland in September, we also scheduled a week in NH and a week in NY .
We figured go on a nice mini road trip while up in the New England states.
Our plan is to check out the coastal areas, breweries, shops, bike paths and scenic roads.
Have been having issues getting into the Schoolic woods National Park, looks like they shut down parts of the campground.

LL Bean in Freeport is an outdoors person’s Mecca for shopping.

The Maine Maritime Museum in Bath is a nice stop for a few of hours.

Bar Harbor has hundreds of tourist shops if you are into that kind of shopping. There are also whale watching tours that go out, if they are running at this time.

You already mentioned Acadia National Park so Cadillac Mountain is presumed to be on your list. Just driving around Mount Desert Island is fun with the small fishing villages and coastal scenery.

Depending on your interests, there is the Minute Man National Historical Park close to the Mass campground. Doesn't take a long time to check it out.

Thoreau's Walden Pond near the Minute Man HP.

As you cross into NH there is Kittery Trading Post and related outlets.

As you cross into Maine, stop at the visitor's center. You will find literature on all types of Maine attractions.

Thank you everyone for your recommendations! I'll put them on the list and hopefully we'll get to knock some off while we're there. We're leaving on Aug 10th so the excitement is building!

Let us know how it went.
I'm currently planning my 2022 August trip to Acadia.
I've been there twice including on my honeymoon.
Maine is a great place to visit.
Have fun.
