Trip Report Red River Gorge KY

Trip report, Red River Gorge, Kentucky. We just spent a week in the Red River Gorge area and will say it is a hidden gem. If you like nature and hiking, you will love this area. It is not over run by tourists, and the locals are very welcoming. We stayed at Callies Lake and Campground and cannot recommend it enough. It is a gorgeous campground, located about 15 minutes from some of the best hiking trails we have been on. The campground staff make you feel like family, the showers are extremely clean.. highly recommended.

Love Red River Gorge. When we lived in Cincinnati we used to take our Boy Scout Troop down there annually to do some rock climbing and rappelling (one of the dads was a rock climber and had all the gear). One thing I will point out to anyone visiting. Be very careful while hiking, the drop offs can appear out of nowhere. It is (or was 20 years ago) heavily forested and you might not see the drop off until you are right on top of it.

The first thing I told my sons is about being careful where you step due to the drop offs.
