Ugh. Campgrounds closing
We're headed out Thursday to the Smokey Mountains. We're going to drive the Blue Ridge Parkway all the way from north to south, stay a few days in the Smokies, then head back up through Daniel Boone National Forest in KY. I just got notifications that our Saturday and Monday night campground reservations are canceled due to Covid closures. The Monday one should be easy enough to rebook, but I'm concerned about finding something for Saturday night on this short of notice, especially that will be pet friendly. Ugh. We might give Wallydocking a try! lol.

I was also considering going in that direction. Were the campground cancellations at public or private campgrounds?

Look at casinos too. Many have free RV lots with water and dump stations available. Most require you to get whatever membership card they have, which is usually free.

They were both public. Peaks of Otter in VA and Balsam Mountain in NC.

Fingers crossed. It looks like the campground closures could well spread out here into our state. As "the numbers" go up our Governor is making noises like he'll order a "reboot" and we'll have to start the reopening process over again.

Thank you. i had to abandon a trip in May due to BRP campground closures. It looks like the trip may not happen this fall, either.

I try to hit Otter Creek at least once a year but it looks like they won't even open this year. We have reservations for Rocky Knob in October and I am afraid they might get canceled before then

Lost my reservations at Fort Pickens for next week. I guess it’s due to staff shortage in the gulf islands national seashore. State parks knew nothing of the closure.

We were in gulf shores last week and drove over to Ft. Pickens both the campgrounds were closed but the beaches were opened but very few people were there. They were still charging people to get in though!

about 1 hr from Otter Creek, we recently stayed at Devils Backbone basecamp which is very nice, it has about 40 full hookup sites plus a bunch more dry but there is a dump/water station. Next door to the brewpub which was open for food (outdoor, covered seating only.
