US-19 from Maggie Valley to Cherokee, NC

Has anyone traveled this route with a Motorhome or Travel Trailer? I've heard it has some steep grades but was more interested in any height clearance issues.

US 19

We have traveled it many times in our truck, it is very curvy, steep and not a good road to take a motorhome on. I have seen many on there with toads but very hard to maneuver, we always leave Maggie and go out around Waynesville and head towards Sylva and Cherokee. The road is much better and no curves... We have a fifth wheel and a big truck and will never take it that way. Saves our brakes!

I did it once by mistake when I left Cherokee with our 37 ft MH and toad. Scary ! Very steep and curvy. I would not go that way again on purpose ( although that route takes you right past Joey's pancake house )

Sorry to say MrMichael that Joeys Pancake house has closed after 51 years. We are sad about it but hopefully someone good will buy the restaurant and we will have another place to go...

We just returned from the Smokies and decided to drive the route without the trailer and the 9% grades decided it for me.
