Haven't had a bad campground along the St. Lawrence River or Lake Ontario. Lots to see in both. On the St. Lawrence near Alexandria Bay , Ny lots to see. You can take boat cruises to 2 different Castles on the St. Lawrence or take a trip into Canada and see the Capital, Ottawa just about an hour away. Lake Ontario has Beautiful campgrounds all the way from Niagara Falls to the St. Lawrence most have large beaches, one I know of you can camp right within the sand dunes and within 50 to 100 ft to the lake. I have lived in this area all my life and you can go less than 100 miles in any direction from Watertown, NY and be in the mountains, on beaches or next to rivers or streams and visit another Country Sorry if I seem biased but it's a great place to be in the Summer.

You should try the VA side. Couple of nice ones are Longwood and Rudds Creek. I don't know how old you are but if your over 62 I think or disabled. Go to the Dam office on hy #4, you can get a lifetime pass that will give you 50% off of your rate. .........North Bend you are almost next to it that's the VA side.....

I second Goose Point. We live in NC and there are many campgreounds here on water but we just went to Goose Point and it is wow.

We're in Md also. Have you tried Lake Raystown Resort in PA? Our friends tied their boat right in front of their camper. You can even go on a paddle boat cruise &/or dinner cruise or rent a house boat. After being at Deep Creek Lake in Western Md, we were surprised how quiet & less crowded it was. All the kids in our group loved the nearby water park.
