Western North Carolina Campgrounds

Does anyone have any recommendations for campgrounds in western North Carolina? We like the state parks and COE campgrounds, but Gorges SP doesn't have a campground, Lake James SP is very nice too, but the campground is for tents only. We really like the area around Waynesville, Franklin, outside Ashville, so that leaves private campgrounds. It's been our experience in the past that private campgrounds have sites very close together, and especially in Covid 19 times, spacious sites are preferred.
If you have any good experiences at private campgrounds, please share! Thank you very much!

We stayed at "The Great Outdoors Resort" in Franklin several times and find it nice. Check out their website.

I'll second "The Great Outdoors" resort, it's just outside Franklin and it's many waterfalls, my favorite western NC stay.
A lot of folks will swear by Mama Gerties campground, which is in Black Mountain just East of Ashville as well.

We really love Moonshine Creek CG (https://moonshinecreek.com/). It's near Balsam, NC -- very near Waynesville. Well run/managed, clean & spaces are reasonably separated.

We stayed at Lakewood RV Resort near Hendersonville last September and have reservations for October of this year. We made the plans for this year based on the best time to get Fuji apples at Skytop Orchard in Flat Rock. We don’t have much experience with private campgrounds but we were happy with it. At least one person has to be 55 or older. http://www.lakewoodrvresort.com

Thanks for the recommendations. Unfortunately, The Great Outdoors only allows self-contained campers, which our A frame is not. We'll keep Moonshine Creek in mind, that's a great area. We qualify for the age requirement for Lakewood. With both Lakewood & Moonshine the nightly rates are a bit higher than we typically spend. But I guess that average for a private campground. Will also check Indian Creek CG in Cherokee, they have some nice sites on the creek which would be great.

Another vote for Moonshine Creek. We've stayed there and liked it. Bathhouse is nice and the creek running down the middle is really nice as well.
