Camp Hatteras RV Resort & Campground Outerbanks

We traveled from the West Coast to the East Coast last Fall and met up with old friends on the Outer Banks Camp Hatteras RV Park & Campground! It's also right next to a KOA! We stayed on the Atlantic side of Hatteras and it was fantastic! We have a 70 lb family pet named Sprinkles and she had a ball! No beach restrictions! We were fortunate! No mosquitoes! Then we drove our Forester MBS up to Manassas,VA and parked in our daughter and son-in-laws driveway for two months visiting! Water and electric and dumped Manassas Battlefield Park once a week! Then back home to San Diego! We did that in 2015 and 2016!

The problem you are facing is, people who do not clean up after their pets. Irresponsibles. I see it everywhere. No one wants to walk on the beach, or, anywhere else and tromp in pet poo.

There are two other ocean front campgrounds along the same road, Pirate Land and Lakewood, all are nice.
And two state parks!

As many have said highly recommend Pirate land, Ocean Lakes and Lakewood. The Myrtle Beach State park is nice and if you like shell hunting then a little further south is Huntington Beach State park. All allow dogs and there is special beach times for them. Happy Camping

Great responses! I am having a hard time leaving the pups and really love the beach. Took the one to Assauteque national for the day last year, but would really love to camp and not just visit.

We stayed at Huntington Beach SP near Myrtle Beach in early March this year. Definitely off-season and our two black labs had a fantastic time running on the beach - not a soul in sight so I let them off-leash (don't tell!!)...and picked up after them (agree with previous poster re irresponsible dog-owners). Best part is Brookgreen Gardens, adjacent to the park. They do NOT allow dogs on property or even in an RV or car on site but if you can figure out a way to get there, it's well worth several hours or a day. Fascinating history, and beautiful sculptures.

Oak Island, NC, allows dogs on lease on their beach. There's no campground on the island but Oak Island Campground is a mile from the bridge on NC 133, 4125 Long Beach Road, Southport. Yes, it's named Oak Island but it's not on Oak Island. It's more of a residential RV park than campground but it was fine. We stayed there a few times while visiting relatives, so not being a real campground wasn't a factor. A plus, or maybe minus, is that it borders the airport and Marines sometimes practice there with their V-22 Ospreys.

Huntington Beach State Park, SC, is great, but it may be booked up though the summer. Check online with Reserve America. The area is not a madhouse like Myrtle Beach, which is a plus or minus for different people.

York Beach, Maine allows dogs off-leash early morning (before 8:00 AM ?) and evening. They are allowed on-leash at other times (i.e. normal day time).

Castaways in Ocean City, was the only place we tried with Fozzie our older goldendoodle last summer. It was amazing and very dog friendly. He was 7 mos old at the time, and everyone loved him. In August we brought home his half sister, six months younger. They keep each other company, but really want them to go where we go now.

Any campground on Hatteras Island N.C. Just walk over the dunes and let the dogs hit the water. Little hot this time of year, spring and fall is the best time.

I’m a little hesitant about posting for James Island County park because its getting almost impossible to get a campsite there. Hands down the best campground for dogs as they have a huge fenced indoggy park that borders a small lake for dogs to jump in and a Yappy Hour at 5:30pm for the dogs most days. Folly Beach is 10min away. Never seen so many dogs on the beach, however they have to be on a leash.
