Where to overnight?: need suggestions

We are going to Talladegga Al next month for the NASCAR race. We will be leaving from Hickory, NC. We decided to stay overnight along the way perhaps experience some nice local culture instead of driving straight through.

Given our route and the desire not to drive through Atlanta, do you have any "secret" places we could overnight in? Drive through would be a plus!

Which Wal Mart would you recommend?....Just kidding!

Without hookups, there are a few Harvest Hosts locations around Knoxville.

Anchor Down RV Resort is supposed to be stunningly beautiful.

Dumplin Valley Farm RV Park was a nice easy overnight. On a hill overlooking the valley.

And honestly, for overnights.. I'm not against a Walmart!

That song was the inspiration for the screen name, I have used across several social media sites over the years. Thank you!

I like The Clemson SC area.
Corp of Engineer COE at Oconee or Twin Lakes on Lake Hartwell SC.

Do not forget your Senior Pass, if you are fortunate to have one !

Safe travels and great adventures.

If you are going to be making your way south on I-59 from Chattanooga, there is Desoto state park near Mentone, AL. The Wildflower Café in Mentone is a famous local attraction for lunch or dinner.

Remember, you can use Cracker Barrels, Cabalas and Pilot/Flyin'J's. We prefer Cracker Barrel's. Dinner at night and breakfast in the morning. Stop early as RV parking is limited.
