11ft8.com

When I need a good laugh I look at this web site,11ft8.com. It is a low overpass in Durham,NC and its 11ft 8in tall and there has been about 95 hits so far, 2 in one day just a few hours apart. I laughed so hard I cried, they have warning lights up and people hit the bridge, campers hit it and the can opener will clean both a/c units off the top. People near the bridge call it the canopener and even sell t-shirts. Now of course it could be me but does make for a good laugh. On one video it shows one that hits it and a few hours later another truck hits it and then the camera takes a wide angle and it shows the wrecker with first truck that hit the bridge hooked up, it's funny

I have driven under that bridge often with just my truck. Believe it or not the speed limit is only 25 mph there

This works and warned me of 13"6' overpass on a rural road and provide directions to avoid the overpass. If I couldn't got under this it would have been about 1 mile of backup on very narrow and busy two lane road to find a place I could of turned around. Well worth the money!!

What is really crazy is that it is often local folks who should know better. Durham has many low RR bridges so one would think local truck drivers would avoid that one. We do get a few RV's shaving off their A/C units.

Update:
DOT has added a traffic light so when the over height detector goes off the traffic light turns red. So now we see vehicles running the red light so they can hit the bridge.
