I love my gasser, wish my 15 saw my 14 5.3 mileage on e85. But with the size of my tt i needed the 6.0. Where i live its red light every 100ft so the regen i would never be able to do on a diesel without going out of my way. Would i love to have the diesel sure but it isnt practical in my application. Def love comparing mpg with others, i only run e85 cause its cost efficient. Mpg difference for me was 3mpg.

Average between 7 and 8 MPG with my 2018 6.0 pulling our 30 footer weighing roughly 8000lbs.

I do run 70mph when I can so I'm not light on the throttle. I'm sure it might get a whopping 9mpg if I slowed down a bit...

Pulls like a beast though. No complaints at all.

I didn't buy a 2500 and an 8k pound rig to spend my time figuring fuel mileage.

It's just like having a muscle car. If you have to worry about it you probably shouldn't have it.

Seems the newer 6.0's don't get any better miles then the 16 yr old 6.0 4speed. Since i tow across country a couple times a year I get varied mpg from as low as 6.75 to as high as 10 mpg avg is right at 8.5 to 9 . not towing i've seen as high as 15.2 and city around 11.5 to 12.5 . the 6.0 does love the gas but no worse then the other big v 8S

2015 Express 4500

Not towing a trailer but a 31 foot class c on an Express 4500 chassis with 6.0 gas, 6 speed trans and 4.10 gears. Weighs about 13,000 when travelling. Usually pulling a 4200# Jeep Cherokee. As high as 9.2mpg on slower state highways, as low as 7.1 on interstates with mountains (Smokey Mountains).

I just upgraded from a 2003 GMC 2500hd 6.0 to a 2015 Chevrolet 2500hd 6.0 last year. I am pulling a 2014 Rockwood fifth wheel that’s 32 ft and 9k loaded. I am getting the same mileage in my 2015 as I was in the 2003. 8mpg towing and 11.5 around town. I do have bigger tires on my 2015 or I believe it would get another mpg or so all around.

Nearly $100 for oil change in a diesel vs <$20 for oil change in a gas en.engine. Lower maintenance costs & cheaper fuel, I'll stick with gas engines!

We have a fleet of (about 25) Ford Triton V10's in our vehicles. Change oil & filter every 5,000 miles and some are approaching 300,000 miles with no problems! Preventive maintenance is key!

That's just ridiculous.

Most V8s will take 6-7 quarts and be in the $30-35 range for an oil change. My F-150 needs an oil change every 3,000 miles, religiously.

My diesel will be 8,000 - 9,000 miles for an oil change at about $100.

So, on a per oil change basis, sure, the diesel is ~350% more expensive. But, on a per mile basis, which is what really matters, the diesel is about 10% more expensive. You save a whopping $10-15/year on oil changes with the gas.

Lots of reasons to get gas over diesel, but oil isn't one of them. Oil change cost is an old wives' tale built on terrible math.

LOL...why? I change mine way more often than I need to and that is at 5K miles and the oil life monitor is at 50%. $27 for Mobil 1 from Walmart and a $4 Motorcraft filter.

I would like to know what oil & filter you use to get an oil change for $20.00 change my own oil & filter on My Duramax for about $50.00.. and that is using Mobil Delvac extreme Diesel Oil Synthetic blend and a genuine GM filter. I traded my 2011 HD2500 6.0 gas and when I changed the oil in that it would cost me about $26.00 using Mobil 1 when on sale and a Wix filter... I don.t mind paying a bit more to have the extra power and ease of towing with the Diesel motor... No complaints about my 2011, but I just never liked the higher revs, even though I know that it was designed to produce the power in the upper rpm range....: Also with the prices of Gas & diesel on a last trip I made to NY from Georgia, my cost per mile was actually less than what it would have been had I still been driving a gas truck.... But I did not buy for MPG I bought for the overall towing ease and power of the Diesel...

2016 GMC 2500hd

I have a 16 GMC 2500hd 4x4 z71 no mods other than new 33" and wheels. I put on the stableload to help with sagging when hooked up to fifth wheel. Use the andersons ultimate hitch on bed rails. Pull a 41' toy hauler loaded with goldwing sidecar hack probably 13k pounds. I just did a trip from Eastern NC to Piegion Forge TN and averaged 7 mpg running 89 Oct at 65mph. So that is going from flat land to Piedmont to mountains. Passing over black mountain was no issue at 6° grade at 45 mph not trying to race with this monster rig. Transmission never got over 200° and Oil pressure and temperature stayed normal. Going down hill was smooth with the engine brake engaging and keeping me at 45 mph. This truck runs good in my opinion. O need for the extra $$$$ of a diesel as I dont live in mountains and pull in mountains all the time.

Chevy 6.0

2015 Chevy 2500HD 6.0 towing a 2019 Rockwood Minilite 2509s from Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Pigeon Forge: I got 8.1 MPG. I got 7.6 coming back (headwind issues thru Indiana). 65 MPH set on the cruise pretty much the whole time and the Tow/Haul mode on.

Since only a handful have actually replied to the question
2018 6.0 Gas 8000# Rockwood TT. Average about 8 on unleaded towing and about 14-15 not towing.

Now additional thoughts
Do diesel trucks actually last longer or is just the engine in your garage after the rest of the truck falls apart?
$59.95 today for synthetic oil change (6 quarts and filter) and tire rotation at dealer with about 25% left on oil life. If you need to change every 3000 miles you need a different truck.
Yes diesels tow better and get better mileage, (thanks for pointing out the obvious)
Around me diesels were at least $15000 more than my truck because they were all LTZs and loaded with other stuff I didn't want.
Having a gas with the 6.0

Where are you getting an oil change for $20 in a gas engine? I can't change the oil in my mower (Z425 JD Zero turn) for $20.
My Silverado 5.3 cost me about $60 to change the oil, and I do this myself.
Chevy 6.0 shouldn't be any more $$ to change the oil. pretty much same oil capacity.
