I too, went to a 2500 with 2 1/2" receiver. Got an adapter from Amazon and while I thought it would be a pain to line up the pin holes, I've become accustomed to it by sight and can as quickly as before throw the WDH in. The OEM version has it's benefits certainly and I think the after market reducers bear watching for unusual wear.

Little off topic....going from a Sierra 1500 to Silverado 2500 has been great. I really like the tow mirrors, back up camera and it pulls the 4600 +/- pounds quite nicely.

Edit....oh and the built in brake controller, liking that as well.

If your truck is used I am sure the original owner kept it. The adapter comes with all new trucks. They are readily avialable

New 3500 dodge trucks have them.as well. Beefy units too. I tack weld them into the 2.5" so they don't get lost. Our fleet has no use for the 2.5.

The factory unit has a lip on it and easy to use. I keep my pin in and drilled it for a pad lock to keep from losing it. I pull about 10K with my 2500. The 6.0 is a workhorse. 4.10 rear end is a good setup for towing.

the aftermarket ones are just cut from a piece of stock the original that came with my truck had a rolled edge on one end so it would not slide all the way inside the receiver

OEM reducer

Had to purchase new TV for our new TT 2018 Patriot 36' 2014 Sierra 2500HD 4x4 6.6L duramax. Class V hitch. I went on-line and got the OEM reducer from GM parts on-line. It's got a nice flange on the end so when you slide it in...it actually stops and doesn't try to slide out back. Check with local GMC/Chevy dealers in your area and you'll find one, but they're cheaper on-line.

Gealousy, I did the exact same thing you did:. I bought a used 2011 GMC Denali HD with 6.0 harder (couldn't make the numbers justify a diesel). I noticed it had a 2 1/2 receiver and the salesman looked in the cab but adapter not found. He went in the back (it was a GMC dealer) and he gave me a used one that fits perfectly.

Walked out to the truck this afternoon and guess what? No adapter! Guess I'll be ordering one!

New adapter came in yesterday!

I can't tack weld it to my shank because I use it for my bike rack, which I also have to be able to put into a 2" reciever. So I've painted the end white so hopefully, I won't leave it in again!

If you never use the 2.5" hole, as most dont, tac it in as it sets in the last pic.

That's an idea. But I'm not sure I want it that permanent.

Man that would have been great if I knew at the time. Doh!

My generic worked well this weekend actually, wasn't as bad hooking up as I imagined but would still like/will be getting an OEM. Heading to Mueller State Park Friday so won't have time before but maybe next week!

Haha! Wedged between the seat motor and brackets.

No really I did look before but no dice. I'd be lucky to get my phone back if it fell under either seat.
