2.5" to 2" adapter
Travel Trailer is Rockwood Mini Lite 25', so not all that heavy. Of course I still use a WDH. I was towing with 2015 Tahoe, but recently purchased a GMC 2500 which has a 2.5" hitch.
Am I ok using the 2" adapter (insert sleeve) that came with my new truck?
If I were towing 10 or 12K lbs, I'd likely buy a new hitch in the 2.5" size, but that seems like overkill for this smaller TT I'm towing.
Opinions?

You should be fine with the adapter insert.

I used one for years pulling a 6500 lb trailer. Worked fine.

I'm using a sleeve on mine, no problem. I would grease the sleeve though, I have heard of the sleeve rusting inside the receiver.

My truck also has the 2.5" receiver. I grabbed a Curt or Reese sleeve at Walmart for $10. Works great.

The GM hitch adapter is much nicer. This link has the GM number, if you wish to shop around.
Genuine GM 15923277 Trailer Hitch Draw Bar Adapter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F675AWU..._hDdqr1Iyyqn6c
Edit:. Make sure to have a longer hitch pin, too...

Yep.....that's what it's for. I've had no trouble - it works well.

It should work fine but I've found it introduces a bit of looseness that i found annoying.

Sleeve
Don't forget to remove the sleeve when you remove the hitch. Ask me how I know. I work in the metal industry so I got a piece of 2" Square tubing and cut it to length. Home made sleeve.

Didn't Ford give you the sleeve? My 2015 came with one and a pin.

For what's worth I ditched the sleeve and went with a 2.5" shank...No slop, No rattling 100% Happy

I plan on switching to a 2.5" shank for the TT do to the holes in the adapter flaring and making it hard to remove and the additional play. I will keep using the adapter for the utility trailer.
My TT is heavier so no idea if you will have any issues, try it and see.

I bought materials to make an extension. Long enough?
https://i.imgur.com/i9Z6pLi.jpg?2
I did actually buy materials to extend and enlarge the hitch, but probably only go a couple inches. I want to be able to open my tailgate. The materials were cutoffs and cutting would be more expensive than the material.

If you are using the same pin hole , regardless of what type sleeve is used how does that change the geometry?
