2007 Jeep Wrangler IOD Fuse
Recently been having the dashboard light up like a Christmas tree occasionally. Seems like all but the check engine light comes on!. Lights go out after you turn the ignition off, but come back on days, or weeks later. Jeep runs fine. The dealership said it was related to the IOD fuse and asked if it had been pulled recently. I said I pull it each time I flat tow it behind the motorhome. He said I didn't need to do that and probably shouldn't since it sits on top of a $1500 computer! He admitted he wasn't well versed in flat towing. Great, neither am I! I'm very new to the flat tow and motorhome world. After reading many posts on flat towing a Jeep I adopted the following procedure: After doing all the hitch and wiring hook ups, I pull the IOD fuse until it clicks, turn the ignition key one "click" to unlock the steering wheel, plug in the auxiliary brake into the "always on" socket, put the transmission in third gear and go. I pull the IOD fuse so I don't have to disconnect the battery and run a separate line to get power to the auxiliary brake. So ...
1. Has anyone experienced this phenomena before?
2. Should I continue doing what I'm doing and just hope I don't break the plastic fuse box assembly and the "$1500 computer" when I pull the IOD fuse?
3. Should I disconnect the battery each time I tow and run a separate line to power the auxiliary brake?
Heading to Lake Keowee in SC this weekend so I need to decide. I'm not the kind of guy that can look at a bunch of warning lights and ignore them. In all fairness, my DW says I have a tendency to obsess about things.
Any suggestions about the tow, or obsessing thing will be appreciated.
