2017 ram 3500 gear ratio

Looking at a 2017 3500 ctd dually and it has a 4:10 rear with aisin trans. Anyone running this ratio, what kind of mpg are you getting? Towing a 36ck2 and trying to figure out what gear would be best, 4:10, 3:73 or 3:42. Gvwr is 16,500 lbs. Please include your ratio, gvwr and what kind of mpg you are getting. Thanks

I do, you will love it. My RPM are about 250 more then my Duramax with 3:73 gears.
You can feel the difference. I get around 11 MPG pulling 10,000 trailer.

I have a 2015 with 4:10 and 2018 with 3:73. I recommend the 4:10. I was running 14k with truck camper and towing 5k. 4:10 down shifted less and mpg difference was not noticeable.

2015 3500 dually with aisin transmission and 4:10 gears. our fifth wheel weighs in just over 16,000 lbs. we seem to average about 8.5 mpg on all of our rv trips. i can't comment about what it would be with other gear ratios but our setup works just fine for us. it pulls uphill and the exhaust brake and lower gears retard speed going down hills to the point that we really don't use the truck brakes.

You will love that 4.10 rear gear for heavy towing. Your MPG wont be good regardless of the ratio. The Aisin is the Allison trans for Ram products.

I don’t think you will find an aisin equipped dually ram without the 4:10 gears

My 2017 Ram 3500 was SRW with the 3.73 and I pulled a 16.5 toy hauler from AL to ND and back with no issues. MPG around 9.5 in generally flat as low as 7 in SD with 20-30 headwinds. But I'll say I was on the ragged edge of RAWR and payload with my aux fuel tank loaded. Thus I now have a 2020 Ram 3500 DRW and 3.73. No towing experience with it yet, just got it last week. The extra payload will take care of the ragged edge.

I think 4.10 gears hit the RPM sweet spot for towing a 16K FW.

With 3.73 gears, the trans. will downshift to 5th more often. With 3.42 gears you will have to lock out 6th gear and it will be harder to get started from a stop.

I get 8.5-10 mpg towing a 16K GVWR FW, with 4.10 gears.

I have a 2015 3500 Dually with an Aisin with 3:42 gears. I like the higher ratio as I don't always tow the boat or Toy Hauler. Both weight about the same and I get 8.5 to 10 miles a gallon when towing. Empty on the highway I get 16 to 19 mph depends on how fast I drive. In west Texas, I run 80mph at 1500RPM before someone asks (not towing).

3:42 is a lower ratio, higher geared. The 4:10 is also better for holdback with engine braking.

I have a 2018 with the 3:73. I wish I had the aisin just do to its reputation. That said I took the truck and my 2018 Wildcat 383 MB just over 12k empty. I rolled across the scales and truck and trailer combined I believe I was right around 23k combined. For a weekend trip. I took the units to pikes peak turning off the interstate at Puablo going into Woodland Park the back way. I then went from Woodland to Estes Park using Peak to Peak hwy. Then on to Nebraska thru Loveland. Yes the truck had to pull but it did great. The 2016 Powerstroke I owned had a 3:55 did Yellowstone again didn’t have any trouble pulling the hills. My Ram averages around 9 mph towing. Once I averaged 10.5 but I really think it was an anomaly.

I’ve got 4:10 in a ‘17 drw mega cab, 15k fifth wheel with cruise set at 69 when possible from Shreveport to Branson i average 9-9.5. 50 miles from home to work I get 17.5-18 running 72 max. If I run 76 I get around 17.
