I had an F250 that rode hard and installed a set of Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks front and rear. I drove around for most of a year with them all set on '5' (1 through 9 range) and didn't really notice any difference in ride. Then one day I changed them to '3' and ride took on a whole new character. Hard braking on washboard roads would still cause the truck to skitter badly, but driving over railroad tracks and such was much less jarring.
I'm getting close to new shock time on my current truck, and intend to put Rancho 9000's on it, too.

BINGO!!!
I am on my 4th F 350 ( '09, '11, '15. '17), I run door jam AP in all my tires empty or loaded (68/80 psi). My F 350 rides as good as my wife's new Caddy Escalade EXT.
Bouncy! Bouncy ride is the leaf springs overcoming the Shocks, so invest in a set of Rancho 9000 XL shocks, been running them on my trucks and Jeeps for about 20 years and they make all the difference in the world.
Yea you can soften up the ride by lowering the AP, that ought to cover up those weak shocks and you just keep on buying new tires. After all those Ford engineers got no idea what they are talking about, they prob just picked a number and pasted it that door jam.
Follow their lead on here they really know what they are doing. Heck I was behind one the other day. Came up behind him on I 10 S of Junction Texas. It was still daylight but I noticed the sparks flying under the passenger side rear wheel of his FR. I looked down as I drove by and it was clear he had that blowout back the other side of the New Mexico state line, that rear tire was GONE, the rim, well he is gonna need to put a much smaller rim diameter tire on it.
I am waving and pointing, but all I got was a frightened stare and getting ignored. I slowed, thinking what could do, this is a real potential catastrophe in the making. Oddly enough he pull to the right lane, so I told wife to roll down window and convey the message. Like his wife the window did not come down and he focused ahead.
Wife said if another tire goes that thing is going to whipsawing down the road, let's go and forget about them. We gave it one more shout out as we pulled along side and I guess they thought we were Bonnie and Clyde, eyes straight ahead, white knuckles on the steering wheel as we left them in the rear view mirror.

Rough Ride
I wouldn't drop the tires to 50. Run mine 60 on front and 65 rear even when towing on Ram 3500 HD Diesel Crew Cab 4x4. Running Firestone 18"stock tires and haven't noticed any additional wear on tires and it rides smooth versus 80 psi

Wow. Tons of replies stating all these different PSI they run in rear tires, etc, but not once did anyone say if they have 17, 18, 19, or 20 inch tires. That matters!!!

Is it a 4x4 or a 4x2? That makes a big difference in the ride quality.
I have a 2016 F350, crew cab, long bed, dual rear tires, 4x4 with the FX4 package and Rancho shocks and I replaced the factory no name steering stabilizer with a Rancho, this one suspension upgrade got rid of the very loose steering issue.
The 350 rides pretty darn good (for a 4x4) empty or towing my fifth wheel, the only time the ride gets painful is when I'm driving off road in 4 or 2 wheel drive. I also keep the tire pressures at the recommended values on the door sticker (17" tires), 75 front and 65 rear, because of the duals there are no TPS sensors in the wheels. The only thing that I would change mechanically, is the front and rear differential gear ratio from 3.73 to 3.31 as that would get me up to close to 20 MPG hwy like my 2011 F-250 got, instead of the 16-17 (empty) and 10-11 towing that I get with the F-350, these are highway numbers, city I get between 12 and 14 mpg. Maybe once I get a few thousand more miles on it the fuel mileage will increase, it's only got 14,500 on it right now.

When I drove an F350 as a daily driver I put a 90 gallon fuel tank in the bed. When it was full the ride was great.

Sure there is, drive the Impala like I do. Let's face it, a truck is a truck, they are built to handle weight, so the smoothness is something that had to be sacrificed. However you can put a few hundred pounds of sand bags in the back, over the wheels, lower the tires pressure by 10 lbs or so and it should help the rough ride.

I run the same pressure empty or loaded based on the door sticker. My GMC 2500 is not that bad of a ride empty and I knew what to expect when I bought it.
When I want a cushy ride and nothing to tow we take the wife's Caddy.

If you do what I did and do a side by side ride comparison of the big three, you will find that the GM's ride significantly better than the other two brands.
There is absolutely NO reason to carry max pressure in your rear tires when you are unloaded, if you do you WILL suffer ride quality and most important you will find MAJOR wear in the center of the tires because they are over inflated for the weight you are carrying. I am all for listening to the engineers, but you must remember that the pressures on the door are for carrying rated loads, NOT for when you are empty. I carry 50 in the rears of my Chevy Duramax 2500 when I am empty and 80 when I am towing. Tire wear reflects that these pressures are about right as tire where is even all over.

x2. I'm tired of people saying you NEED to run max PSI all the time. Not only is it smoother, and you get better tire wear, but you also have more TRACTION for safety. Stock truck tires are getting bigger and wider and don't need to run such a high PSI to carry most loads.

When I traded in my '11 F 350 Dually w/47,000 mi in on my new '15 F 340 Dually. The sales guy was reading the appraisers notes and chuckled then asked me I had put new tires on the truck to trade it in.
I said those are the tires that came on it when I bought from you guys. Ended up me, the appraiser and the sales guy when out to look at. Dually's have a rep of poor and erratic tire wear. My last 2 ('11 & '15) I had 78,000 combined miles on the 2 of them. Never replaced the tires, they both had many miles left in them and appeared near new.
I run door jam psi and have since my first car back in the early 60's, I will rotate/balance the first time at my first oil change, 2nd time at my 3rd oil change and that will often be my last, I might rotate again if I detect any vibration after that. I also replaced all my shocks on my dually with Rancho 9000XL's.
I have never driven tires till they look like chicken skins or even reached the tread wear indicators. I am a high performance driver.
Your truck, your wallet do as you want, I just know what works for me for over the past 50+ years.

Softer ride with airbags!
I have a dodge 3500 SRW long bed crew cab. For the past three pickups, I have added firestone airbags to the rear axle. Do I need the extra weight capacity on my 3500 diesel? No! What I have learned is I can raise the rear about 2 inches off the spring height and that the airbags are softer and more forgiving than the 3500 rear springs. It really improves the high speed highway ride when empty. I is also slightly improved with about 30# air pressure and my 1400# tongue weight on the hitch. I pull a 33' Lacrosse TT with a Hensley Hitch. Not jerky at all! Couldn't be happier!

No reason other than reading the owner's manual that clearly states to run the pressures listed on the label empty or loaded.
I'm at 70,000 miles on my present set of tires and fully expect to get at least another 15,000 miles before replacing them for winter. No unusual wear anywhere on any tire.

i wonder if these Firestone Airbags would help my bumpy ride, or any other brand of air bag.
I don't mind the cost, but would the really help much?
thanks

I have a 2018 F350 SRW Diesel with Lariat trim. My truck weights are shown in the attached pic. Drive axle, no trailer 3500#. I’ve also attached a fill table for the Michelin tires which I assume the op has. As you can see 65# in rear is almost double the pressure needed. TPMS is an issue when it drops below 65 so use 68...

Marc, You have 18” tires, the table is for 20” tires. I’m sure you can get the table for the 18” tires also.
Actual weights help a lot. Good luck..
