Also the transmission is the 2020 Silverado HDs are not a GM and Ford collaboration. That collaboration read for the light duty trucks.

Just a little update here. Yes, I did purchase a 2020, GMC 2500 diesel. The 10 speed shifts very smooth in town. I have not had it out on any road trips yet. I also had a B&W turnover hitch installed, so now I have my B&W Companion hitch set up in the bed. I have backed the truck under the 5th wheel trailer to check the level, but have not had the trailer hooked up. I can not wait for warmer weather so we can get the trailer out on the road. I also am anxious to check the turning radius on this setup. I hope it works out like the photo posted in this topic.

I only have 800 miles on mine, very little towing, 16.5mpg. Not much of a sample though. I certainly don't expect that towing, would be nice though.

2020 Duramax fuel mileage

My 2019 F-350 6.7, gets between 8-10mpg. All depends on wind and terrain. I’m 18k loaded. I’ll never own anything besides a ford!

I doubt that a 2020 will get any significant increase in "slick" mileage. (Without Load) But I would bet a dollar to a donut that it will get better "loaded" mileage as with 10 speeds the truck will spend a great deal more time in the PEAK of the Torque curve.

Reports I have read on the Ford F250 diesel is they are picking up 2 MPG over the 2019's on the highway . But there are also rumors that the engines are going into regin more due to the lower engine speed at 60 mph steady highway speed. W/ the 10 speed you pick up an additional overdrive and top gear is slightly higher. At 60 MPH in my 2019 F350 w/ 3.55 gears, I am running 1500 RPM VS the 2020-1300 RPM. I am always leery of 1 st year models. My last trip we average 12.9 pulling a 8K V-front from TX to Canada thru Montana and Wyoming-6,500 miles. Getting 19.5 on highway and 15.5 average. The Chevy has always done a little better on mileage than the Ford. The diesel milage has not increased over the last 10 years, but the power has. The automatic engine brake makes towing in hills so much more relaxed.

The 10 speed in the HD trucks was a joint venture design between Allison and GM and is manufactured by GM. It is not the same 10-speed that is in the 1500s that was a joint venture with Ford. All that said, coming from a '19 DRW 3500 to a 2020 DRW 3500 with the 10 speed, I don't have enough miles on it to say for sure, but it doesn't seem significantly better on fuel than my '19. I can say for sure its a blast to drive. It is smooth as butter and really seems like it puts the power to the road, both unloaded and towing. IMO, it is a big step up from the 6 speed Allison, even if its only "Allison branded."

I wouldn't expect a significant increase in gas mileage under slick conditions. What I DO expect is a significant improvement in the vehicle's TOWING performance. With 10 speeds available rather than 6 the new engine/tranny configuration will spend more time in or on the PEAK of the Torque curve producing better towing.

I WILL buy this new configuration, but not in the 2020 release. I have NEVER bought a vehicle or engine configuration in the first year of production. I let the manufacturers work out their bugs first.

I have been driving my Dad's 2019 F150 with the 10 speed for a few weeks now. It shifts very smoothly on the highway. In town, not so much, especially at take off.

In the F-150, they skip a few of the low gear shifts when the transmission is in normal mode..1,3,5 and then normally 6 through 10. In sport mode and tow haul mode, it shifts through all the gears but the RPMs when they shift will be a bit higher so they will feel a little firmer.

The 10 speed transmission in the Heavy Duty trucks is different than the one in the F-150. The Heavy Duty uses the 10R140...the F-150 uses the 10R80
