2020 Ford Escape Hybrid Toad Wiring

Has anybody done a wire harness on a 2020 ford escape hybrid to make it a toad?

Curt has a kit advertised for 2020 SE, but not titanium and I am having problems with Support on the phone.

Etrailer has this kit where I cut the wires and install diodes .

I think the older model harness is what they are using on the 2020 SE, and I bet it fits the Titanium but has anybody else done this?

I am surprised to hear that specific vehicle, especially a hybrid, is flat towable.

Blue Ox has downloadable detsiled instructions for all the vehicles they provide base plates, diodes, etc for.

You might want to check there, their instructions include many pictures.

Here is what Blue Ox wants to sell me. I don't want to cut the wire harness if I don't have to.

Only the Hybrid escape is flat towable.

you go into the menu settings and select Neutral Tow mode in the information display. (I even had them show me this menu selection)
70 MPH max speed, quick transmission run beginning of day and at least every 6 hours towing.

We bought it because my Wife loves escapes, and she was due for a new one. But the side affect that it IS towable is great.

Our 2006 Jeep Liberty we tow is stuck at our PA home for when I go up there to work and the MH stays at our full time home in FL.

Interesting.

We have a 2016 Escape Titanium AWD. Would love to be able to tow it but it's not towable. Our 2013 GMC Acadia Denali AWD on the other hand is flat towable. Almost set it up this spring, quotes and all from the dealer, then the virus hit. That's how I knew about the Blue Ox detailed instructions because I wanted to know how they were going to alter my vehicle, down to the knats ass.

We had a Saturn Vue Hybrid. A good city car although we did take it on a few long trips and it was manageable. In the end we didnt like the technology and reality of maintaining 2 power systems. And although it was nearly seamless did not like the stop/start technology although that's gotten more popular on a lot of cars now. Sold it to our nephew, and still being driven daily. Then we bought the Escape.

I know you dont want to cut the wiring harness, but could you go into more of your concern? I dont like altering any factory setup myself but to tow I would accept it.

Thoughts?

Chris

Here is the install directions for the blue ox wiring kit when I look up a 2013 GMC Denali. https://www.blueox.com/wp-content/up.../02/BX8848.pdf

you have to cut the tail and brake light wires to wire them to these diode blocks. I don't like to modify the factory wiring harness when some companies actually ship the kits with wire harness where you unplug your tail lights and plug into the TOAD harness.
Here is the one for the GMC from Curt.

(can be found for a lot less with search in internet)

It is definitely a matter of individual preference.

Either plug and play connection from your Motorhome to your towed vehicle to operate your tail lights or a one time diode and wiring connection.

I'd be very careful cutting the Ford wiring on my Escape. The Ford LED light fixtures are ridiculously priced and I'm not willing to take any chance of damaging one.

I use the Tow Mate RVHW32 Wireless RV Tow Light Package and it works great. Easy to install, no wiring except to 12VDC power, and very bright. I just plug the transmitter in to my 7 Pin connector on the motor home and plug it in to 12VDC power in the TOAD. Quick easy and no permanent wiring to deal with.

Well I solved this problem. Went out and bought a 2018 C-max Hybrid. Still in factory bumper to bumper warranty until next February. Went with the 18 because they had worked out all the problems by then.

Its flat towable and does not have LED light panels for rear lights.

its still separate Brake/turn/tail, and I can't find any unique wire harness adapters for this car, but I don't mind cutting wires to install a module on a used car .

Plus this keeps the rock chips from Motorhome off the Wife's new car.

Plus I might also wire it for a 4 pin so I can tow my little motorcycle trailer around, maybe. But a rear hitch for sure so I can put my rear rack in it I use to carry stuff like Harbor Freight 3500 generator when going extended dry camping.

I solved the problem in a similar manner. I've been looking for a project vehicle to play around with and found a nice Jeep Cherokee. Solved my desire for a project and added a easy to convert tow vehicle. Plus now I can go on back roads that I wouldn't even consider taking the Escape.
