2020 gm 2500hd
Inquiring minds need to know, is there anyone out there towing with the new 2020 Chev or GMC 2500 HD? If so can you give us your input, not interested in getting into a debate about other manufacturers.

There is already one thread started about this exact thing already. Started by linedriver. You might be able to look it up and read wha people had to say as well. Unfortunately let in the thread it started turning into a ford dodge and diesel argument but the beginning has some good info.

I will give you my take on the 2020 HD. Decided to move from my 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 to a 3/4 diesel. Drove a 2020 Chevy LTZ Duramax and a 2020 GMC Denali Duramax. Only drove the Chevy a few miles on interstate, but took the Denali over different type roads. I could not wait to get out of the Denali. On both tucks the ride was so harsh I was about to cry with my 11 month fused back. Took it to the dealer and told him don't bother to give me a price. If I had to keep and drive the truck I would not take it for free. Drove a 2019 Ram Laramie Longhorn. Denali isn't even on the same planet with the Ram on luxury. Bought yesterday a 2019 Denali Duramax. Night and day better ride than the 2020. However the 2020 had a much greater payload. IMO you have the much better truck. Also I have a side load garage with 45' width of concrete to garage door. I could not make the turn into the garage without stopping, backing up and then driving in. 2019 no problem.

I went from a 2014 2500HD to a 2020. Payload on the 2014 was 2500, the 2020 has a payload of 3550. The 2020 is taller than the 14 and ten inches longer. Too long for the garage. It does have a stiffer ride that the 14 but not terrible, but I don't have the back problem. Over all I like the truck, but I have not towed with it yet. only have 350 miles on it.

Especially in terms of the new 6.6L L8T gasser that is now the standard engine in the 2500/3500 GM pickups. That will muddy the waters a little.

Towed my Coachmen Freedom Express Liberty edition 276 RKDSLE with my 2020 2500 HD Gas. The trailer gross is 7600 lbs. I am impressed, considering I went from a diesel to gas. The engine has plenty of low end torque and handles the trailer nicely. I don't think I am going to miss the diesel, especially the maintenance cost.

I am currently towing my 31', 5th wheel with a 2018, Ram, 2500, 4x4, diesel short bed. My wife says it rides worse than any other tow vehicle we have owned. She has bad arthritis problems, so she really needs a softer ride. So, going to sell it and get a Chevy/GMC or a Ford.
I was also wondering about the ride and performance of the 2020 chevy/GMC with the new 10 speed auto transmission.

Wow, literally the second response was "well my ram is so much better......." after the op says they don't want a discussion about ford's and rams.
There are probably 1000 videos on YouTube covering anything you can think of with the new silvy hd's. Have not seen any bad reviews or glaring issues with either engine.

TFL truck just did a couple videos on this truck towing pretty much maxed out up the Ike and also did a fuel MPG towing maxed out and unloaded and overall it did ok. The Ike kind of killed it though but it did make it. For me I wouldn’t hesitate to buy one after watching those videos.

Actually that response was proper for the topic, as that guy did have experience driving the truck and felt it rode rough enough to push him in another direction.
I have seen 1 review, that was overall favorable of the gasser, but they felt it slightly disappointing in the towing department.
I think that they should be good vehicles because the previous generations were pretty good trucks. I like them. I think overall the OP would be very pleased. GM usually does it's homework before putting something new on the market.

I went from a 2014 2500 hd Duramax to a 2020 2600 hd gas. The 2500 hd gas is probably 900 lbs lighter but the frame and suspension is quite a bit heavier. The ride is firm but not uncomfortable. You might test drive a 2019 and a 2020 before you sell your present truck. My WD has back issues, but loves the 2020. She needs a booster seat to see over the hood. Lol.

Not to mention the fact that the poster ended up buying a 2019 GMC, which he thought rode better than the 2020 and on par with the 2019 Dodge that he test drove.
There will always be some give and take in the ride, loaded vs empty. Soft ride empty, may be too soft loaded and vice versa. A lot depends on the pin weight also, as one individual's combination may offer a great ride, and the next may not. My experience (when I had a 5er), I went from 3/4 to 1 ton and added several hundred pounds to the bed to get a more comfortable ride, both were 8' beds, and both were comfortable empty.

We all know the real reason for buying the 2019, the 2020 is just plain ulgy. I bet GM gives us the quickest mid model refresh in the history of pickups on that mug. Thankfully they did add power to make it a little quicker so maybe we can look at the tailgate more often now.

The 2020 2500HD 4 wheel drive is tall, 60 inches to top of bed rails. Would that be a clearance problem with your 5th wheel? Bed rail to overhang.

Thanks for that measurement. That is one of the things I have to check measurements on.

I drive a 2011 GMC 2500 gas. Its been a great truck and was looking at the 2020 GMC diesel this past week. It is 1 inch taller and 10 inches longer than my current truck. Since all my cars get put in the garage at night I will have to pass on the truck or get a 2019. Love all the options on the 2020 tailgate and all but the size is the breaking factor. I guess I could buy a new house with custom garage.

That's my biggest concern when I replace my 2013 Duramax next year, it's already too tall for my trailer, anymore and I'll have to flip the axles and then the trailer will be taller than I'd like.
