While I was at the dealer on Wed last week price the vehicle I was ordering went up $1500 while I was in the process of choosing option. Bummer. Later RJ

That works for me. I don't like bargaining for cars, anyway. While I prefer to buy 1- or 2-year old vehicles and let somebody else eat the depreciation, I can't do that for the tow vehicle I want. They don't exist on a lot, new or used, that I can find. Thus the special order, if I do it.

I think everyone doesn't do it that way because they don't know they have access to it. I didn't know about the Mustang club. $35 is a cheap fee for a big discount.

Before we went in to do the paperwork, my salesman made the mistake of telling me that my trade-in 2015 truck was already sold and that the buyer had been waiting a year for the right truck. As a result I did have some last minute requests including a two $500 trailer cameras and trailer TPMS monitors. He upped my trade-in price to cover those.

I bet he was aggravated at himself for that slip.

the trade values were so high this summer it was amazing.
when I bought my Ranger I traded in a 2018 Ford C-max I bought used from a dealer. I had owned this 1 year and made $2K on it. I gave them this car when I ordered my truck, they sold it in 2 days.

A couple weeks later I traded in a 2017 Moto guzzi motorcycle on the range. They sold that in about a week.

Than when I picked up my Ranger I traded a 2006 Jeep Liberty. I owned this for 5 years and made $4K on it.
yes I was cleaning out the garage.

Heh, maybe. Or he didn't realize he'd made a mistake given he should have known better. He was gone in months.

My Ram is a stripped work truck, less to go wrong. Was $42K when I bought it in June 2019 or $12000 off msrp.
Those days are gone.

That's $54K MSRP. The well equipped XLT F150 I'm playing around with on Ford's build site is about $58K. Not much more.

Took my 17 350 in for service in April and while I was there I ordered a 450 that I had researched on line. Truck showed up in December and with x plan and great trade in the truck turned out to be my best truck deal ever. New truck is perfect so far after 2200 miles. New truck is worth way more than I have in it but I would not part with it after all the waiting. This could be a good time to consider a truck, especially since the dealers don't have any new inventory.
What is the payload of your F450?

Thanks
Jeff

I got real lucky, ordered my f250 in 2019 and took delivery in sept 2019 and got what I wanted for $52500. I was also lucky on buying my toy hauler 381TH in January 2020 for $72000.

Someone pulled out in front of me in May, resulting in a total loss of my low mileage F350 DRW. Replacing it with a 2018 model cost me $70,000 😱

Anything larger than a F150/1500 just isn’t being made in the numbers they use to be. There isn’t a dual wheel truck in any brand within 500 miles of me. The demand is the same, but supply is short, so prices will spike, dealers will add a markup, if you can even find one. Delivering times are 6 months or more on occasion.

Good luck.

There are dealers out there not adding to msrp. Do searches and, May have to drive a ways. Friend in northern California drove 8 hours, better trade and price. Saved 4k off California dealers base msrp and more over some dealers who take 10k on the price

We are in the process of upgrading our awesome 2020 F250 7.3 gasser to a 2022 F350 diesel. It's overkill but the timing was right. We got $4k more than we paid for the 2020 by selling it outright to Carmax.

The problem is ordering the new truck. Locally, everyone is sticking to MSRP and there aren't any to even look at. We ordered from Granger Ford in Des Moines, IA, who are about 1,100 miles from us. However, they offer their customer's built to order Super Dutys at 2% under invoice, with price protection, which saved us over $6k over local prices. Also, just 2 weeks ago a $2K Ford cash offer showed up in the mail. We ordered the truck in September and just got a scheduled build date today for March 7.

Many dealers are quoting 8 month + build times right now. Ours will be about 6 months total. Granger has been great so far.

These crazy prices could be fixed real fast if everyone thought like me. Starve them out let them sit on the lots and rot. This should have happened years ago no reason for a new truck to cost what they do. Same problem with many things. Cure for high prices is stop buying things that are not needed and 60 percent of these luxury short bed 4 door sedan plush cow boy cadilacs are certainly not needed. But no one seems to care about throwing money away on something priced 50 percent what it should cost. Not my money not my business but certainly the reason for the price is because they can get it.

With inflation kicking in people are going to push back. Told dealer that later in the year when he can't eat them, sell them or move then, THEN we might talk. Wanted to give me 35k trade and I showed him two same models, dealer lots with twice the mileage for over 51k. There's a sucker born every minute who will shell out that crazy price. Not me

Just thinking out loud here; but, I've come to the theory that the "climate change" zealots have redirected their efforts to combat the west' s appetite for using the "world's" resources by trying to disrupt the availability of raw materials. As in if you don't make the product you generate less CO2.

Or because China is the primary labor provider for a staggering number of products, this is how they "flex their muscle" in the world market.

Not saying either is good or bad (although I do have an opinion). But I have a bit of trouble attributing this to the so called "greed of capitalism". I do know that when the cost of labor and materials goes up so does the cost of the product to the consumer. And as another poster stated; if the cost is to much consumers don't or can't buy it. Or they seek out "less costly" alternatives.

Just my opinion from what I see, hear and read. Your observations may differ and I'd like to hear them.

I too have been researching new trucks while thinking of trading my 2015 Chevy 2500HD. I only have 76xxx miles on it so they offer a high trade in price but I can’t bring myself to pay sticker for a new one, even though it has the 6.6l gas. (Sorry no Diesel for me but that’s another thread)
But look around, prices are going up everywhere, I just delayed my retirement due to hyperinflation concerns. Prices going up the market going down = serious financial troubles ahead.
I’ll hang onto my paid off 2015 thank you.

I leased a new 2018 F-150 3.5L Supercrew, 6.5 cargo box, 4WD w/tow package less than 4 years ago. If I'd purchased it instead, price was $52,000 and some change. When the lease was up (Aug '21) I had thought about a new lease, but I chose the 'option to buy' because the buyout price, agreed to in 2018, was written in stone ... $29,850 (plus tax).
After checking prices of used 2018's just like mine on various internet sites & finding they averaged $10,000 more, it was a no brainer.

P.S. we have a 2017 32' Flagstaff Super V Lite camping trailer, 2 slides, approx 7200 lbs empty (i tow with empty tanks, ex propane) and I've never had any problems with lack of power or inability to pull. Most times I have to check the mirrors to make sure it's still there.
