2109s towing

We just purchase a 2018 F150 3.5 ecoboost with the tow package, we are retiring in 9 months. We have narrowed our search for our retirement trailer a - Rockwood 2109S. Just curious how well will the Ford pull the trailer, plenty of power? What kind of MPG can we expect?

When you say "tow package", do you mean the regular tow package or the Max Tow package?

You'll have plenty of power. Gassers will always get an average between 8 and 11mpg, no matter the size of trailer.

You'll need a WDH with integrated sway control.

Congrats!

On, retiring, the new pickup and the 2109S!!

The truck will pull the trailer and handle with ease.

We pull a 1905 with our 2016 F150... it has the tow pkg, we have the 2.7 ecoboost, and I spec'd it with a 3.31 axle.

Not the best ratio for the mountains, but I lock out overdrive, keep it in tow/haul mode and it runs like a rocket. Plenty of power, runs and shifts smooth as silk, your 3.5 eco will do even better.

Speed is what will cut into the mpg's... 60mph and under on flatlands we have gotten 10÷ mpgs, over 60 and mountains, we get 8 to 8.5.

We have a 2109S on order and I have no concerns pulling it with our 2.7 ecoboost and ours is only the 6 speed trans, I think your truck has the 10 speed so even more gears to select, should pull like a monster.

Good luck with everything, I think you will be pleased to say the least!!

Thanks I feel pretty confident now, with 3.5 eco boost, 10 speed trans, and 3.55 axle. I think I’m ready to tackle the hills!

Same here. 2015 F150 with a 5.0 engine and tow package. Towing a 2109 with WDH setup. I don't go over 65-68 mph average 13 mpg with our hills in PA. Love the trailer for my wife and I.

I have a 2013 with the 3.5L ecoboost and a 3.31 gear. It's the 6 speed so it's not apples to apples, but I've towed a 28' bunkhouse that was just within weight. The experience, while not white knuckle, was not one I would be comfortable putting my family through. We're looking at a 2509S, and I think that will be just fine.

With the 28', I was seeing 10mpg at 60mph. The fuel mileage goes down dramatically when the turbos spool up, but it's nice having that power. It's nice not having to listen to a V8 scream to develop the same torque. The 20mpg I see every other day more than makes up for it and you'll probably do better than that because I tend to have a lead foot when not towing.

We’ve got a 2016 3.5 Ecoboost with the max tow package pulling our 21FBRS (same as the 2109s) and an Andersen WDH and it does GREAT! With your 2018, you’re gonna really appreciate the BLIS covering the length of your trailer. My ‘16 disables the BLIS when I plug my lights in. Enjoy!

The F150 with the inflated 3.5 has tow ratings on par with some diesels. That combined with a decent WDH (Equalizer 4 point anyone?) will pull your MiniLite with power to spare.
Go enjoy America...

msfogal;
We tow a 2018 2109s with a 2018 dodge durango rt, v8 hemi, 8 speed. We get 11 mpg, towing mostly above 5000 ft elevation. We keep speed to below 64 mph.

I tow my Flagstaff 21FBRS (same TT, different decals) all over the mountain west with my Jeep Grand Cherokee V6. Tows really great and gets 11-12 mpg. You will even tow better, but may ony get 10 mpg,
This retirement stuff is great. I've been at it for 17 years now, with 3 different camping rigs, and recommend it to everyone. Enjoy!!!

I use a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado for my 2015 2109s. I have never needed a antis way hitch. I can tow 75 m.ph. with no issues

Thats a tiny trailer and should not need a WDH. Axles are placed rearward and as long as the TW is good it should tow great.

I towed a very similar size TT with an 08 F150. towed like a dream.
