21FBRS sway out of control

Towing 2014 21FBRS (3700 dry) with a 2014 Ram 1500 standard cab. Husky round bar WD hitch. Right side sway control.

Slight rearward tilt on the ball, hooked four links down from top, have five links between hooks and bar. My dealer had it set up three from top.

I have been progressively tightening the friction bar with the handle till it is full on, now starting to tighten the bottom nut. I can not keep this combination under control. The slightest breeze and I'm all over the road.

Will a left side bar help? Or have I done something else wrong?

I wonder if you have the lift bars too tight. I tow a 23 with two links up with no swaying whatever. It almost sounds like you need more weight on the tongue

I have the same trailer and hitch. My bars are set on the third link (top two free). Trailer tows level and is solid as a rock, even in windy conditions. Requires very little WD. I agree that you might not have enough tongue weight. Suggest you take it back to the dealer who set it up.

I also started out with just a right side sway bar. Adding a left helped, but didn't eliminate all the sway. I'd also double check the links. Like you I had to switch from 3 to 4 links once I loaded up the TT.

Or maybe my sway isn't tight enough? I bottomed out the spin handle, and probably gone another half turn on the bottom nut. But I've read where it should be so tight that it almost doesn't straighten out of a slow turn.

21 fbrs sway

Are you checking how you have your trailer loaded. To much weight in back of trailer or tow vehicle can cause sway. I have a 2014 fbrs that I tow with a 2010 F 150 super cab that pulls good without the weight bars on and only the sway control. If I use my weight bars for a longer trip I have two links free and seems to work good and dont have the sway control cranked down like you say you are.

I wouldn't think so but I haven't weighed it either. Dry foods in back next to fridge. Cold stuff in fridge. TP and a few towels in the bath. Pass thru up front has drinks, bottle water, extra cords and hoses, sat dish, two chairs, tub of leveling blocks.

Could too much tension on the bars cause this? I've had it on the third link before i went to four, maybe I should try the second link?

Also, if you still have P rated tires on they will contribute to sway.

Also, make sure your truck tires are fully inflated.

They are P rated Goodyear SRAs. .. came with the truck and I've already thought some on that but hope to run them a little more than 15k lol. Checked cold pressure before I left.

Is your trailer level or a little tongue down? I'm having the same problem with mine. Granted it's twice a heavy. I have two friction sway controls and it still wags it's tail on the interstate. At PDI everything looked fine but the area they set it up on wasn't really all that level. Now when I look at it on a dead level surface it looks a little tongue high. That will definitely contribute to sway. I bought a straight line dual cam and I'm setting it up tomorrow. That way I know it will be right.

Mine is dead level when hitched. I just checked and ball height is 19" on the truck and top of the coupler is 21" which makes me think the spring bars are picking up the back of my truck two inches. Leaving campground in the morning I will double check hitched.

And the trailer tires? Is their pressure up to spec?

Yep checked them as well. Think it was 50, read it off the tire info sticker on the trailer. And checked my gauge against two others and the TPS in the truck.

Unless I'm way of base I believe that if your trailer is level and the top of the coupler is 21" and the top of the ball is 19" the your hitch head is too low. I believe the top of the ball should about 3/4" to 1" higher than the level coupler. If I'm wrong someone please correct me.

Most WDH I've seen tell you to add a little to the level coupler height to compensate for a slight squat. My recommendation is to NOT take it back to the dealer and read the instructions for the hitch and do it yourself. It does sound like it's strung a little tight. Also...are you positive it's actually sway and not just getting pushed around on the road? Mine runs perfectly straight, but a good gust of wind will shove me to the side..truck and all.

When I was driving here two days ago we had 15-20mph wind. I couldn't stay in my lane. Going 52 max.

That'll do it, but is it the whole rig moving or just the trailer?
