I'm pretty much a Ford man with an '06 chev 2500 with 6.0 gas (300 hp I think). It was fine with my old trailer which had a dry weight of 4200# regardless of terrain. With my new trailer (6400# dry), its fine on the flat lands, but would like a little more in the mountains.

Don't know if your set on a 3/4 ton but on the Fords there is only around $750 difference for the 1 ton. Don't know about the other makes.

RAM, 2500 Cummins Turbo Diesel - It's The Bomb!! My 5.7 Hemi 1500 was great but pulling the TT with the 2500 is soooo much better and easier on the driver and the driven.

See signature. I'm just a Dodge/Cummins guy, but mostly because I have trusted friends that work in the parts and service department of a Dodge dealer and have taken good care of me over the years. Plus, the Cummins has way less moving parts than their V-8 diesel counterparts. Simpler is always better.

Glenn, as a fellow Dodge owner and a Jeeper from way back--seeing your water fording pic almost made me jump out of my chair. The Jeeper's Mantra: "water and mud bad, rocks good." I hope you change your axle, t-case, and trans fluids often!

I have 2009 f250 with 6.8 v10 not great on gas but plenty of power pull 11,000 pound 5th wheel with no problem. Just don't trust new ford diesels yet if I bought diesel would be Chevy or dodge.

I have a 2012 F250 6.2L gas. Awesome truck. I didn't want to commit to the price of a diesel since I only pull once a month, normally local. My last truck was a 2002 F250 7.3L diesel. Another awsome truck that gave very little problems over the 10 years I owned it.

I had a 2000 f250 with a 7.3.Great engine and beside regular maintenance all I replaced on it was a sensor.

Just bought this 09 Ram with the Hemi engine pulled my 6500# dry weight travel trailer up into the Catskills without to much complaining. The difference from my previous 1/2 ton Hemi powered Ram was evident right away.

Glenns Ram is no ordinary Ram it's a POWER WAGON! The ultimate factory offroad truck.

Some of the Factory goodies are:
Warn Winch
2inch lift
4.56 gears
electronic locking differentials in the front and rear for TRUE 4 Wheel Drive
Electronic disconnecting front swaybar for improved articulation

Simply put it's a badass truck for the areas he is pulling his camper thru

Agreed. I try to avoid deep water, but sometimes it becomes necessary. That was certainly deeper than I was comfortable with. It was very close (or at) the location for the air intake and certainly running the risk of hydro-locking. Fluids were checked after that and all water crossings.

Thank you sir. Very few understand or appreciate a Power Wagon and its capabilities. It is in its own category outside of the basic gas/diesel debate. It certainly is not the tow monster the diesels are, but still has respectable capabilities coupled with incredible off road abilities. It certainly allows us to get into (and out of) areas with our fifth wheel that we might not other wise try. We then use that as a base camp and explore some beautiful country.
