5th wheel hitch for 2021 GMC 3500 new puck system - short bed

Currently have a 2015 GMC 2500 Denali with a short bed and my hitch is a Pullrite 2900. This is my second Pullrite and I have had good success with both. Currently considering buying a 2021 GMC Sierra Denali with a standard (short) bed and trying to determine hitch options. GMC sells the Curt A300 and I'm told Pullrite has model 4500 that may work. Looking for input from other owners of GMC short bed trucks with the puck system on whether you are using these hitches and your level of satisfaction. I tow a CC 34ik so looking for a little more pin weight capacity for the tow vehicle. I also welcome input from others that are using different hitch systems with the GMC puck system in a short bed. Thanks CC friends...

I have a 2018 chevy 2500HD short bed and pull a 34IK and use the B&W companion slider for the puck system. I really like the B&W it is built very heavy duty and made in USA.

2019 GMC pulling 2019 CK2 with the B & W slider using the factory puck system. Very happy with it paired up with a Trail-Aire on the fiver. Solid, nice pull, nice ride. Can't speak for other hitches as no experience with others. Dad also pulled with a B & W companion with his Chevy long bed and fiver for years, it sold me on the B & W.

puc system

Are you using ISR system om your 2900.
If so you can use pullrite puc system adaptor to fit your new truck.

Numbers for GM are #4444 and #4452

I have a single rear wheel 2020 Chevrolet 3500HD with the puck system. Can highly recommend the B&W Companion. I did not need a slider hitch for my 5th wheel. The B&W Companion has plenty of adjustment front to back and three height adjustments. Great secure 5th wheel hitch.

I have a Demco Auto slide that fits right into the puck system. Ordered on Amazon and they put it right in the bed of the truck. Just drops in.

I have 2018 Chevy 2500HD Duramax with a short bed and a B&W Companion hitch (no slider) that fits the puck system. The fact that the hitch is 2-piece and makes it easier for this old guy to remove was a major selling point with me. BTW, I opted not to get a slider hitch that many people prefer. I have towed 5th wheel campers for well over 15 years in a short bed, usually in national parks that have smaller spaces, and have never regretted my decision. Although, I am very careful in tight quarters. I respect the opinion of those folks who like them; whatever works for you.

If you are buying now? Why would you not go with a 3500 long bed?

Believe it or not, many of us prefer the 6.5' bed for several reasons.

Only because of my preference for standard bed over long bed. Donít want the extra length.

I have a 2020 3500HD SRW Silverado High Country short bed. Also the B&W Companion Puck hitch.

The 2020 and up are now 6'9" on the short bed. Plenty of room for turning. No slider needed.

I really like the way the B&W hitch jaws connects to the 5th wheel pin box. It also comes apart in 2 sections so I can take it out myself pretty easily when I want.

I pull a Cedar Creek Champagne 38EL with Trail Air Pin Box.

Similar to yours just a bit longer.

Thanks, good information. Going to try the Curt A30 with 2021 GMC and based on your and previous comments think non-slider will work or most of our towing. Our challenge may be when we haul kayaks on top of truck as they do overhang into back of truck. Worse case scenarios are that we do not haul kayaks or that we also buy an adapter plate for $700+ for our existing Pullrite slider.
