5th wheel hitches

We have bought our first 5th wheel and now I am looking for a hitch. I have narrowed it down to a Curt, Reese or BW. I am looking any advice on which would be the best fit.

We have a 2019 Cedar Creek 38FLX which has a GVW of 18000. I will be towing with a 2019 Ram 3500 dually.

I can only speak to the Curt. I have a Q20, and have had it since 2010. It is a heavy, and heavy duty hitch. I've never had an issue with it, other than trying to get it out of the back of my truck. Like I said, it is heavy. But it is solid.

B&W .... I am new have a Patriot 18 K it is rock solid ... when hooking up it is always clear the king pin is seated properly because the handle is not spring loaded ... just have to drop in the pin and arm is locked ... welded 2 piece ... https://www.etrailer.com/Fifth-Wheel...BWRVK3255.html

I use a Demco Hijacker Premier series hitch. Mine is 16K because that is fine for my rig. For the weight of your rig, you could use the 21K Demco.

I like the Demco because it is rock solid, and has a full wrap around jaw with an additional locking bar for additional security.

The B&W is very highly rated, & my reason is just my opinion, but I prefer the added security of not having a 2 piece jaw.

We love our BW - it's very sturdy, dependable and separates into two pieces (each weighing about 70 pounds) for easier removal. I'm a month away from turning 70 years old (and have degenerative arthritis and a herniated disk in my back), and I can still lift the two pieces out with no problem.

I have zero regrets for going with BW. It's quiet and gives a great deal of peace of mind.

I can find pictures of destroyed hitches of any brand.

The details of that case are murky and the original poster on the GD forum deleted the post that included that one.

There's also the highly documented one that another Andersen failed during an accident.

But I have a destroyed B&W hitch around here somewhere. I've seen ugly truck beds as a result of drops with Reese hitches.

Every hitch is fallible- especially once you get stupid users into the mix.

I also have the DEMC hitch with the one piece jaw. This is very tight fit with no slop in the king pin to hitch jaw fit. So about 90 to 95% of the chucking you hear about has been eliminated.

My Demco Hitch is an auto slider hitch but the head is all most the same between them. The hitch head uses most of the same components in the head.

Too bad this is always where hitch questions go .... there are many people who like their Anderson hitch... I think I would have had one if not for the loss of Turning Point advantage

I had many 5th wheel hitches over the years.

While there is nothing wrong with the Curt (I had the Q24) but if you have to remove it frequently and don't have a hoist or loader you will regret it - big time.

I loved my Anderson Ultimate I (steel version).
My current B&W Companion is my absolute favorite - hand down. Easy to separate the top and bottom portion which makes installing/removing it a snap and there is zero chucking, clunking or whatever you want to call it.

I run a Curt A25 5th wheel hitch in my F350 dually. Truck had industry standard rails in it when I bought it, so that was one of the considerations I looked at when buying a hitch. The head can be taken off the hitch with just one "huge" pin and then both pieces are very manageable to get in and out of the truck by myself. So far, the hitch has worked great. Connection, lockup and release are all very easy. Etrailer.com is your friend.
