8289ws f150
Has anyone pulled a 8289WS with a f150 Lariat short bed. If so please let me know the short falls I can expect. Thanks

The pin weight might be over your cargo capacity rating. See thread below.

Welcome to the forum. I would not recommend asking about towing a 9k 5th wheel with a 1/2 ton truck as your first post. Towing and payload threads stir up all kinds of mess most times.

Why didn’t you give this new Member this advice before he posted his first thread?
Welcome to the forum, Tommuy6867. This is a good question, and I’m sure you will get the answers you are looking for.

Welcome to the forum, Tommuy6867.
The only answer I can provide is “it depends”. It depends on the specific F-150’s capabilities. It’s not whether or not it can pull that 5er, its about whether or not it can carry the weight that the pinbox will put on the truck, and how well it can stop it.
There are a lot of variations in the F-150’s options both mechanically and in the level of bling. The Lariat is on the higher end of the bling scale. The more bling you have, the less capacity you have for payload. Adding air bags will not increase the GVWR.
IMO, the 8289WS is too heavy for the average (most) F-150s but if it has the heavy duty payload package (which is rare) it should be within the truck’s GVWR. I’m sure you’ll have someone come along and say no problem, but I challenge them to weigh their truck with that 5er connected to see by how much it exceeds their F-150’s GVWR. I could live with 200# over but we were 600# over pulling a 32’ long travel trailer (with 5 passenger) when I decided I needed to upgrade to my F-250.

Maybe this dolly is the answer to 5th wheel pin box loads on 1/2 ton trucks. (I realize the photo depicts a 2500 Chevy/GMC)

I agree with itat.
I pulled our 8529IKBS (9400 lb) 5th wheel with a properly equipped F-150 for better than a year.
It did fine on weekend trips but knew as we head more into full time and longer trips/stays where we'd be packing heavier, I'd need more truck.
So depending on your situation and truck, it may work, it may not.
As mentioned, this discussion is a hot topic here and some folks are very adamant about their opinions.

Unless the Lariat has the Heavy Duty Payload package, it isn't capable of towing a 5th wheel.

itat has given you a very good response, well explained and well written. From my experience...we own an 8289WS. We previously had an F150, but were pulling a different 5th wheel at the time. Even with the lighter 5th, we decided we needed to step up to a 3/4 ton. We got a 3/4 ton gas truck, and we stepped up to 8289WS. The gas 3/4 ton handled it well weight wise. I could not have imagined pulling the 8289 with our F150. We now have a 3/4 ton diesel and that is a whole different world than even our 3/4 ton gasser, but that is an entirely different discussion and not one intended for this thread.

Since there was zero info given, I can only assume that the OP is asking if this F150 can tow that trailer ... and the answer is no. Next question ...

We had a fiver we pulled with our Silverado 1500 with the 4.8 motor. It was scary to say the least; luckily we have lots of local camping, which is where we stayed. The problem is not towing- it's stopping. I wouldn't recommend it.
