About to buy my first 5th wheel Sabre 36QBOK

My wife and I are about to order our first 5th wheel, as we sold our travel trailer last summer. We are ordering the Sabre 36QBOK. My questions are centered around this:

My 2007 4 door F-350 4X4 came with the factory 20 inch wheels and its a short bed. It has the airlifter 5000 air bag kit on it and also the B&W Turnover ball

1. Will I have trouble with clearance due to the 20" wheels?

2. I can't decide on a hitch set up. My truck has the B&W Turnover Ball already installed, so I want to use it with what ever hitch I go with. I've read about the Pullrite superglide 16k that has a kit that will utilize the turnover ball. Some folks say to just buy the B&W companion and set it back 4" with the adjustments and you won't need a slider. There are just so many opinions on hitches I'm lost and don't know which way to turn.

Any advice you guys with short beds pulling Sabres could give me would be helpful.

Thanks and I look forward to getting to know you folks.

I would go this route because it is a clear bed when not towing.

The 20" tires may be a bit soft in the sidewall department.

You'll love the 36qbok!
Sabres number one seller.

May I ask why you decided on the 36qbok?

1. My tires on my truck are 235/80-17 - which I think is a 17" wheel. But, it's a 4x4 and sits unpleasantly high off of the ground. I have decent clearance. I did make contact between truck and camper one day with a bone-headed move (super soaked ground and drove off of the gravel parking pad into grass on one side- sunk my tire a good 8" or so).

2. B&W has a Companion Slider. Since you already have the turnover ball- *if* you want a slider, B&W makes fantastic stuff. It isn't automatic like the Pullright Superglide, though. I'm pulling with a long bed, no idea if you need a slider with a short bed or not.

Finally, welcome! We love our 36QBOK!

We picked it over the 35QSIK because we like the feel of having two living areas and with 2 little girls we liked having a second bathroom. Of course there were a few other things but those were my WIFE's main issues.

I have the BF Goodrich E rated tires. I hope they will be okay for towing. I think the actual hitch weight is less than 3,000lbs???

Any of you guys towing with a shortbed and not using a slider. I know the sabre says it has the max turn technology so I wonder if I even need the slider??

How easy is it to get that hitch in and out?

Super easy, remove the head, loosen 4 bolts, remove 1 hold down bolt, pull the pin and it's out, the new design they have now doesn't require any tools to remove so it would be even easier.

I would go with the B&W hitch. I think in about 90% of all situations you will be fine without a slide hitch. you may still want to go with a B&W slide hitch for that other 10% because it is always better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. I just pulled my first fiver home last Friday. I run a 2012 F-350 with 20 in wheels they are 10 ply tires and have no problem with clearance. Here is a pic. Sorry about the quality.

I have the new version that fits in Ford's factory prep. The hitch just drops into the four pucks and twist the handles toward the hitch and put the pins in. This is all done from inside the truck bed. Love my B&W!!!!!

We had a puma 5er, and are also looking at ordering a 36qbok in a couple weeks.
We have a companion (non slider) in our shortbed chevy (in the rearward most setting) and have hooked up to Sabres. U cant turn 90% but you can turn pretty tight.
On the wheels you are fine. Factory wheels are rated to handle at least the gvwr. And 20" wheel and tires will actually have stiffer sidewalls, because there is more wheel and less tire. Some people think that larger wheels equates to larger tires- but actually most stock tires on a certain lineup of trucks will all be very close in diameter (usually within an inch) regardless of wheel size, rather it be a 17" wheel or 20" wheel.

I pull a 34tbok with a Ford shortbed, companion with no problems. Only one season, but never even came close to cab/camper contact. That said, had the companion slider been available last march, I'd have it instead of my original non-slider version.

I see the cost of the B&W slider and the pullrite system that mounts in the B&W turnover ball that is automatic are about the same price. I already have the turnover ball installed so I'm really considering the pullrite autoslider just for the peace of mind. We go to Myrtle Beach and if you don't get an end campsite you really have to almost jake knife the trailer to get it backed in. At least I did with my travel trailer.......the 5er may be different.

IMO, the slider is just good insurance. You may not need it, but as long as you maintain it- it's there when you want it.

BUT- there's a whole thread/raging debate on it.

As much as I love my B&W, if I had a slider- I believe that I'd have an automatic so it just does its thing.

I have a B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Hitch and a Anderson Ultimate 5th Wheel Connection hitch; SuperSprings and Timbrens on rear of my F150 (all made in the U.S.A.), I have a Reese Revolution on my 2014 Rockwood 8289.

The maneuvering with turning and parking is easy and more than enough room between the cab and front the 5th wheel. Overall I am very satisfied with the performance of all products. You stated you want to use your turnover ball and you've pulled a trailer; this product is light, easy to install and remove and uses your turnover ball. Check their web site, it has videos and information.
