Adding a Motorcycle lift to my 22RR toy hauler

Any good/bad thoughts on installing a motorcycle lift to the rear of my Grey Wolf 22RR toy hauler? Don't wanna use the toy hauler for toys, rather dining or sleeping. its a pain to take the bike in and out daily when traveling.

How much weight were you planning on hanging out the back end of a unit that
clearly was not designed with that purpose?

They’re marketed as a toy hauler......inside not outside.

Just leave it at home and go camping, if you want to go riding stay home. I had a friend that could never figure this out . He had a Harley and a boat. Always had to take both. He never had much fun camping. I guess because every night he would have to take the bike out to make room for the family to sleep, then the next morning had to put it back in because a chance of rain . And the boat, he drove one truck with the camper and his wife drove the other truck with the boat. Total chaos. He now has one truck with camper, leaves the bike home and finally enjoys camping

maybe it would work with a mini bike . but not a motorcycle . when you get to camp unload the bike and don't load it up till you leave . get a bike cover in case it rains . if your just doing one nighters then maybe don't bring the bike . why would you buy a toy hauler and then not use it for it's intended purpose

we recently did a 5 month trip to the Arctic Circle and did a lot of riding in Alaska, NOW we're heading up to Nova Scotia for a 3 month trip. the riding is supposed to be awesome so the bike IS coming along. we own a road king. I did write Forest River for a "professional" answer to my question. We do take the bike out when we arrive and doesn't go back in until we leave the campground. I'm looking at options.. nothing more.If it can't be done, it wont be done.

First,

Second, i have the smaller version and i think it *could* be done. If i remember correctly, it is an I beam frame that extends to the ramp door. not much to bolt a hitch on directly, but might be able to take it to a competent welding shop and have braced and mounted. A custom removable TWO point attachment might work a whole lot better.

you are adding a lot of weight well behind the rear axles, this will take a fair amount of weight off of the tongue of your camper. depending on if the bike is in the trailer or behind it, you may have to adjust your hitch with each setup.

You have several problems with hanging a Road King off the end of the trailer. First, the frame of your trailer will not handle any hitch that would even support that weight without a lot of additional support welded on. Then you have that 800 lbs hanging off the end, which would be something like a -10% hitch weight on you TV.

Don't know what you are using to pull the trailer, but if it is a pickup that is enough, put the motorcycle in it. You could get one of those motorized lifts that you just need to push buttons to put the bike in it.

Don't think I have ever seen a bike as big as a Road King on a lift behind anything less then a big class "A".

A Road King and lift is too much weight on the rear of the trailer. I haul my Goldwing in the back of my truck. I have a Cruiser Caddie ramp/loading system that make loading and unloading easy. Before I had the Cruiser Caddie, I would call ahead to motorcycle shops in the area to see if they had a ramp setup that I could use.

I too started out with a toyhauler. I installed T-nuts in the floor so I could easily install/remove a wheel chock. That made strapping down the bike much easier and secure.

I use a 1800# front tire chuck, the front of the bike is strapped to it and the floor eyelets front and back. we drove 19500 miles trouble free, including many rough roads & 4 panic stops. works great, i just hate the "take it out and put it back in the morning routine" It is what it is, my questions were answered

Depending on tow vehicle you may want to go with a toy hauler with dedicated garage.

We moved up from a 26rr to a Puma 27qvc. Still no dedicated garage but does have room to use camper with bike loaded in back. The happy jack bed is great will come down when bike is in and hover just over the bike so we have extra bed even with bike in there.

I haul a 1300 Honda VTX

Forest River sent me to the frame manufacturer , who said it "could" work but you'd void all warranties. also the excess weight beyond the rear bumper would be beyond the axle weight and reduce the tongue weight. the axles would have to be moved further back. SO I'l suck it up and load & unload as we stop. thanks for all the responses
