Air Bags

Howdy All,

I recently installed air bags on my SD 250 but have not hooked up the camper just yet. The objective of adding them was to level the truck a bit. I have helper springs (OEM) and they engage once the 5er is hooked up. The bed lowers about two inches when measured from the ground to the center of the rear wheel well.

I don't know what the air pressure necessary to level it yet but will try it in a couple weeks. I'm curious for those that have air bags what pressure you end up with and how far do you go relative to leveling the bed? Any lessons learned or recommendations would be appreciated.

Cheers
BP

I put Hellwig Bigwigs on my gmc sierra 2500HD. I have 30 psi in mine and that's a little too much.

It depends. In addition to leveling the bed, they also help with the bouncing around. I think I need new shocks (and/or possibly new bags). My last couple of trips out it took nearly 55 psi to get a decent ride. Granted I was a bit heavy due to the additional weight for those trips (shhh...don't tell the weight police). Normally I can cruise the highway with about 35 psi, and pump them to 45 psi on the concrete or rough roads. But that's the great thing about the wireless remote compressor...you can add or let out on the fly! It is wonderful.

Airlift loadlifter 5000 in my '12 f250. Sometimes 70-80 psi. All depends on the payload.
