Following this thread and wondering if advantages of airbags that work conveniently will be offset by weight (I'm near the book limit).

This is an emphatic no. Air bags will help level the load, help with sway and give a better ride under different load conditions. They do not add one pound to weight capacity.

X2. We have had Firestone Ride-Rite air bags on our trucks for the last 13 years. First on a 2002 Ram set up for a Lance Slide-in, then a 2008 GMC Sierra and now on a 2013 Silverado. All were DIY installs and each set was installed with separate fill lines on each side of the rear license plate. I never saw the need to put in an air pump. Once they were adjusted for pressure, they held. Every set has been flawless. The Silverado set has been on for 5 years. And, yes, they will be on the next truck.

I initially had separate fill valves for each bag, but thought it was a waste of time filling both separately and having to go back and make sure they are even. I installed the T union and really happy with it. If you haul uneven loads then separate valves might be necessary.
I also T'd the lines to my Airlift bags. No sway, reduced bounce on my 03 Chevy Duramax. Improved ride dramatically. I ran the lines up into my console with a ball valve and Schrader valve. I can reduce air pressure from the cab after dropping the trailer. I use an auxiliary battery charger from Harbor Freight that has a compressor included.

It gives me the option of having a jump starter and tire inflator if needed. I hook it up WITH the trailer load on the truck and inflate the bags to 60 psi. Have run this setup close to ten years without issue. I would say the built in compressors are nice, but somewhat complicated installation wise. I have heard stories of failure for them but would be convenient. Those systems also have the bags T'd.

I've had the Air Lift 5000 for 5 years and have never had a problem. In fact they have NEVER lost a pound of air unless I let it out on purpose. I have the on board compressor and would strongly recommend one. I'm able to change pressure while I'm traveling and don't have to hook up a compressor when ever I need to air up. It's well worth the cost!!

We installed the Air Lift 1000 on our Ram EcoDiesel. It's an inexpensive way to improve your ride, stability and handling. In our case it improved the way our Blue Ox hitch performed. We got the kit from Amazon for $83 and a family member installed it. Easy install and works great.

I installed Air Lift 5000 bags and Wireless ONE compressor a couple years ago. They have been great. I advise you to the the compressor. You can change pressure on the fly and the system will maintain 5 psi in the bags that is recommended when running empty.

I teed the bags together with no issues. I load my truck evenly and do not need side to side adjustment.

The install is bolt on with no major modifications. I did run the compressor off a relay instead off the fuse panel. Here is my install.......http://www.forestriverforums.com/for...ll-121412.html
