air vs better WDH

2017 1500 Ram pulling a rockwood 8319ss with a pro series WDH with sway control. Pulls good but not great, would air bags or a better WDH get us closer to that great pull. trying to get that warm fussy feeling all over when pulling so the wife can get behind the wheel.

Perhaps your current WDH isn't set up correctly.

Most RV dealerships barely know how to install them, let alone getting them set up right.

A buddy at work tows a camper with his 1500 Ram and didn't like the way it towed with a proper WDH.

He installed some adjustable Rancho shocks, (cranks them up when towing) stiffer coil springs and an after market sway bar.

He said it made a huge difference for the better.

Had these installed on my 2010 F150 FX2 (took them about 30 min) and they have made a world of difference.

Interesting because the vehicle list that the RAS fits does not include any Ford products. Were yours a custom fit? If not, how did you get them to fit your FORD?

The Airlift 1000bags installed inside the rear coils will provide an amazing amount of increased side/side stability, even when not towing. Set 35 psi for towing and 10 psi unloaded.

Instead of air bags I installed Tuftruck variable rate coil springs in my 2017 Ram 1500 reg cab 8 ft bed. No adjusting air pressure, leaks, etc. also installed Bilstein shocks and a Hellwig rear sway bar and the truck handles my 233s beautifully. 5500 lbs loaded and use an Equalizer 4pt with 1000/10000 bars.

WDH without bars

We have a fairly light 5000 camper and a 2017 Ram 1500 5.7. I found that towing without the WDH bars made the ride so much better. The trailer and truck ride level. With the bars we got the what I will call the WDH shudder. It's what the bars do if you are totting a lot in the back of the truck to even out the load. We don't get near the truck carrying capacity yet, so I forgo the bars.

Then they weren't set up correctly...

You really should get them set up and be taught the right way to hitch up by a hitch shop...not an RV dealership.

They (RV dealerships) are notoriously known for putting hitches on, but not really knowing much else about them, including installing them right.

I installed adjustable Rancho's on our '02 1500 when we got our trailer. Those combined with the WDH made it ride great, and our Rockwood is the worst riding trailer I've towed. Unfortunately they don't make adjustable Rancho's for the factory rear air bag HD trucks yet, so I have to be more careful with the hitch weight to keep the trailer settled down.

I helped out at least five different newbies who just got their TT's and didn't know the first thing about their WD and sway bar setups.

They all said the same thing...their dealer's told them "3rd link and you're good to go!".

I showed them the correct procedure for hook-up and and explained the theory behind the setup and they were all happy!

Heck...one of them said that their dealership told them to only put the sway bar on "when they needed it!"

Some dealers are definitely better than others. Keep in mind, they are only typically setting up an empty trailer, so the owner should learn how to set them up as their trailer will only gain weight getting ready to head out.
