Alaska

I am considering pulling a car trailer to Alaska behind a FR Sunseeker 3010DSF @ 32 ft with total trailer length of 21 ft. with combined weight of about 20,500 LBS. My question is whether I am likely to use it often enough to be worth dragging it behind me.
Thanks,
KPM

This year or in general? Contact people and get information about getting through Canada first if it’s this year. The Canadian border is still closed for the time being. Some provinces and territories aren’t letting visitors in until there’s a cure or vaccine. There may be some exemptions so arrange that before hand.

If it were me, I would plan an itinerary, down to the detail of where I am staying, for how long, and what I wanted to see.

From there, I think I would know if another vehicle is needed.

There's many blogs of traveling to Alaska by motorhome. Any recommendations there?

If I had a toad already setup, I think I would err on the side of bringing it along.

Chris

As stated in another post, are you concerned about weather? We get freezing temperatures here in Wisconsin, north mostly, anytime after mid September.

For sure your are going to be running your furnace every night once you get past mid Illinois. Labor day in the midwest is very unpredictable. Could be 90 or a high of 45.

Canada will be a lot colder.

Most everything tourist and RV related shuts down between Labor day and the September 15. Not only only in Alaska, but also along the Alaska Highway. Not to mention, a lot of tourist attractions won't even be open this year.

I surrender

Yes, this year Canada is definitely sketchy. I looked into the current border and travel situation and it is poor. There is disagreement and travel restrictions
for citizens between the Providences. In some instances they have to isolate for 14 days after travel to another providence.
It looks like we'll spending our time in the North and Southwest with excursions into California, Oregon and Washington State. There is more there to see than we can do in a month anyway. I would appreciate hearing about anyone's favorite places in the Western States. I have family in Helena Mt. and Jacksonville Oregon. I plan for the north rim / Jacob Lake of the canyon via 264 out of New Mexico - Utah - Nevada, Wyoming, Oregon, Northern California, Lunch at Donner Pass, route 9 thru Zion, Lake Meade, Hopefully drive the Bear tooth pass from Red lodge down into Cooke City and then descend into Yellowstone. I have at least 6 travel loops out and back so we'll see and after all, how much scenic grandeur can you take, Right? I have decided to take a car so we can anchor and tour. We will be starting from and returning to Gainesville Fl.

we went back in 2017 with no toad, in our diesel pusher, with no issues. We aren't the type to have to 'go somewhere' in our car once we arrive somewhere for the night, because we probably already stopped several places along the way, while in the motorhome.
we had one excursion where a toad would have been nice, a helicopter ride to the tundra, from Denali Park, but we just left the campground in the motorhome and drove it there and parked in the same lot as everyone else.

Actually, I'm glad now we didn't tow it ... not only another 'thing' to be concerned with, but it sure makes it easier to 'back up' with the motorhome without having to unhook first.

D W,

Thanks for the link. Doesn't surprise me at all. Its wishful thinking to believe all rvers behave themselves.
