All you 5.7L Hemi Owners, Synthetic Oil?

Head over to RamForum and read the Synthetic Oil thread. Our Hemi's like molybdenum in the oil. For that reason I run Pennzoil Ultra, but a lot of people run Redline and Amsoil. I'll run 5w20 in the winter and 5w30 in the summer. No issues with MDS and dealer approved the change when towing a lot. I also run RoyalPurple filters as it's the only, as far as I've been able to find, full synthetic glass mat filter made for our trucks.

Just to note Mobil1 has 0% moly in it. Neither does RoyalPurple after they reformulated a couple years ago.

Probably the best thing you can do is send a sample off to Blackstone Labs for a used oil analysis. They'll tell you how well your oil is protecting your engine and how well your filter is working.

So that's what it's called MDS. One of the things I hated most on my 13 Chevy. What an aggravation having those cylinders cutting in and out. if you could manually lock it in to 4 cylinders it might work but personally, I won't buy another vehicle that has MDS. If you read the forums, people are buying chips and other ways to get rid of it. Really sorry to hear Chrysler doing that too.

I can hardly feel my Ram 1500 going in and out of MDS. If you limit the transmission to 6th gear (I always do while towing) that prevents MDS from activating. While not towing it causes me no issue at all...but I do not run around with a hemi foot either.......
