Analyzing the numbers

Hello all,
I finally got around to actually weighing my 2016 Roo 183 on CAT scales with my TV (2014 Ford Explorer Sport). I knew I was going to be close on limits, but looks like I am ok. However, I would greatly appreciate any second looks from you experts here. I have come to greatly appreciate the experience and advice provided by fellow members. Here are the numbers (in pounds):
2014 Ford Explorer Sport specs:
  • Max tow limit - 5,000
  • Max tongue weight - 500
  • GCWR - 10,400
  • Front GAWR - 3200
  • Rear GAWR - 3350
2016 Roo 183 specs:
  • Dry Weight - 3,667
  • GVWR - 4,820
Normally (as much as possible), I would be towing the trailer with empty tanks (potable, grey, black). However, due to having just finished up a long weekend of camping, I had 2/3 full black and grey tanks when I got on the scales (approximately 335 pounds extra weight). Also, since we had just finished camping, I was also down a case of beer and a small amount of groceries, but all other items and passengers were packed for a normal camping trip. I don't pack any wood.
CAT Scale numbers:
WDH hooked up -
  • Front axle - 2930
  • Rear axle -3330
  • Trailer axles - 4120
  • Gross Weight - 10380
WDH disconnected -
  • Front axle - 2780
  • Rear axle - 3540
  • Trailer axle - 4060
  • Gross Weight - 10380

I did not weigh my vehicle by itself, but I know I should have. Should I repack my vehicle and get it weighted by itself? Do you agree that I am good (but close) based on the above numbers/info? Looks like I am just 20 pounds under on GCWR, but that number would be reduced once my tanks are emptied. I greatly appreciate any input I receive. Thanks!

What is the GVWR on the truck? You should have weighed the truck at the same time so you could calculate your tongue weight since you have a 500 lb receiver limit.

I have the GVWR numbers in my original post (per axle). Yes, there was a line that had formed at the scale...and I had two screaming kids that wanted to get home. So, I forgot about weighing the truck by itself. I'll have to redo it next trip (Memorial weekend) or pack the truck back up and take it by itself in the coming weeks. The scales aren't too far from me.

Analyzing the numbers

The sum of the axles is usually not the GVWR. You should find it listed on the top of the sticker that has the axle weights. The GVWR will be less than the sum of the axles. Wasn't trying to scold you or anything on not doing the final weigh, but you can't tell enough from the two you did. I figured you had a good reason.

Yes, thank you. I knew that, but had a momentary brain fart. The vehicle GVWR is 6300, so I'm right below that (6260) with the wdh connected, assuming I'm looking at the numbers correctly.

I think I will definitely weigh the whole setup again on the way out next time (empty tanks, full load of supplies) because the numbers are so close. I just feel better knowing.

You are right on the limits but should be fine.
